Use optimization tools
Optimization Tools adds Tools → Optimization Tools, a site administration workspace for maintenance and diagnostics. Enable it under Settings → POM Tweaks → Optimization → Optimization tools.
Enabling the module does not perform cleanup or schedule background maintenance.
Run quick maintenance
The initial Quick maintenance screen retains a checkbox-based workflow:
- Clean expired transients
- Delete orphaned site metadata
- Delete spam comments
- Delete pingbacks and trackbacks
- Delete duplicated post metadata
- Review the selected tasks. Duplicate metadata removal is not selected by default because some plugins intentionally store repeated values.
- Choose Comment age. The default includes all existing spam, pingbacks and trackbacks; choose Only older than the selected date to expose the cutoff date. Other quick tasks use their own eligibility rules.
- Select Run quick maintenance tools, review the tasks and age policy in Confirm maintenance, then choose Run selected operations. Cancel closes the confirmation without starting a batch.
- Keep the page open while small batches run. Review completed and refused/failed counts.
- Use Pause after this batch and Continue maintenance to pause or resume the approved plan.
Quick maintenance changes eligible data as it scans, without requiring individual row selection. Orphan cleanup includes post, comment and term metadata on the current site. Shared user metadata is excluded. Revisions and database optimization remain separate tools.
The report retains the latest 30 quick-operation results. Its summary counts cover the entire run. Repeating a plan rechecks current eligibility; it does not restore deleted data.
Analyze before selecting changes
For more control, choose a diagnostic from the grouped navigation:
- Read its scope and choose the available filters.
- Select Analyze. Small requests advance the analysis while the page stays open.
- Use Pause after this batch to stop further requests and Continue analysis to resume.
- Review each finding's evidence and available operation. Report only offers no mutation.
- A full results page pauses the scan. Download it before selecting Next results page if you need to retain earlier findings.
- Select actionable results, choose Apply selected operations and confirm. Each record is rechecked before modification.
Changing filters discards the preview. Reports expire after one hour of inactivity. Reload report retrieves the latest stored result after a connection error. Completed changes are not automatically undone.
Counters describe records examined and findings across the report, including previous pages. Download this results page exports only the current page, not the entire report.

Permissions and site scope
The page requires site administrator permissions. Content operations also respect applicable content permissions.
Most tools inspect only the current site. Orphaned metadata → Users — entire network is an explicit multisite exception available only to network super administrators. Run settings integrity from the main site to inspect network-owned settings.
Keep owning plugins and the theme active during diagnosis. A missing provider or callback in one request does not prove that its data is abandoned.
