Require a minimum order amount

Use this control when customers must reach a minimum spend before placing an order. It works with the WooCommerce classic cart and checkout, including POM Theme checkout layouts, and with the Cart and Checkout blocks.

Configure the minimum

WooCommerce must be active. Open Settings → POM Tweaks → E-Commerce → Cart & checkout → Minimum order amount.

  1. Select Enable and save to initialize the fields.
  2. Enter Minimum order amount in the store currency, using a dot or comma for decimals. For example, 25.50 or 25,50.
  3. Optionally enter Message. Leave it blank to show the default explanation with the minimum, current amount and missing amount.
  4. Save and check the storefront with a cart below the minimum.

An amount of zero removes the restriction. Turning off Enable also disables the control.

How the amount is calculated

The control checks the final cart total after coupon discounts, including product taxes and fees, but excluding shipping and shipping tax. The calculation follows the final total supplied by WooCommerce and its extensions. Amounts are compared using the store's currency precision; a cart exactly equal to the minimum is allowed.

For example, with a minimum of 25, a cart containing products worth 23 and shipping worth 5 still fails. If a coupon reduces an eligible total from 30 to 24, the order is blocked. A fee and its applicable tax count toward the minimum.

The requirement applies to new storefront checkouts, including virtual products. It does not revalidate existing orders, payment links for existing orders, administrator-created orders or automatic renewal orders. Empty carts keep WooCommerce's normal behavior.

Write the message

Tag Result
{order_total} Current total used for the minimum calculation
{minimum_order} Required minimum
{remaining_amount} Additional amount needed to reach the minimum

All three tags include currency formatting. For example:

Your total is {order_total}. Add {remaining_amount} to reach the minimum of {minimum_order}.

Ordinary percentages such as 10% can appear in the message. Classic checkout updates the visible notice when its order summary refreshes. Blocks receive a plain-text validation error through WooCommerce's Store API. The server checks the total again when checkout is submitted.

Verify and troubleshoot

  1. Add products below the minimum. Confirm the notice appears and checkout is blocked.
  2. Increase the quantity to reach or exceed the threshold. Confirm the restriction disappears.
  3. Apply a coupon that brings the total below the threshold and confirm the requirement applies again.
  4. If totals differ from your expectation, compare the discounted total including fees and taxes, then subtract shipping and its tax.

Use the same currency for the configured minimum and the active cart. This control does not convert its threshold for third-party multicurrency extensions. If another extension overrides the final total, that adjusted total is used.
