Set the WordPress email sender
Use Email sender to choose the From address, display name, or both for mail sent through WordPress on the current site. This guide is for site administrators. The two overrides are independent and off by default.
Before you start
- Choose an address your mail provider authorizes for this site.
- Check whether your SMTP or mail-delivery plugin already forces a sender identity. Later filters or the delivery service can replace these values.
- Keep access to the current sender settings so you can reverse the change.
This module changes the From identity. It does not configure SMTP, authentication records, a return-path mailbox, Reply-To, recipients, message content, or delivery credentials. A plugin that sends mail without WordPress may use its own sender settings.
Configure the sender
- Open Settings → POM Tweaks → White labelling → Email sender.
- Enable Email sender and save if prompted to initialize the module.
- To change the address, enable Use a custom sender address and enter Sender email address.
- To change the display name, enable Use a custom sender name and enter Sender name as plain text.
- Save and reopen the same tab to confirm both values and switches.
Enable either override or both. An empty address or name preserves the value already provided by WordPress or earlier filters. The runtime also leaves the original address in place if a stored value is invalid. Sender names support accents, apostrophes, and quotes without adding visible backslashes; HTML and line breaks are not used as mail headers.
Settings apply to WordPress mail from both public and administration requests for this site. On multisite, configure each site separately. The network settings screen does not provide a network-wide sender override.
Verify the result
- Generate a non-sensitive notification to a mailbox you control through an existing site workflow.
- Inspect the received From name and address. Check the Reply-To and recipients separately: this module does not change them.
- Test both an administration notification and a public workflow if your site uses both.
- Disable the address override and confirm that the name can remain customized. Repeat with only the address enabled.
- If a mail provider imposes another sender, review its permitted identities and the configuration of any SMTP plugin.
A successful WordPress mail call alone does not prove delivery. Check the receiving mailbox and your delivery provider's result.
Troubleshooting and disabling
- The sender is unchanged: confirm the module and individual switch are enabled, the value is nonempty, and the address is valid. Check plugins or providers that force the sender later.
- Mail is rejected: use a sender authorized by the delivery service and inspect its delivery result. This module does not establish authorization for a new address.
- Only one kind of notification changes: confirm the other workflow uses WordPress mail and whether its integration replaces the sender.
- The wrong site is affected: reopen the settings for the site that generates the message; multisite settings are separate.
Disable an individual override to restore the earlier sender value for that field. Disable the module to remove both overrides while retaining its settings. Previously generated or delivered mail is unchanged.
