Hide selected toolbar elements
Use Settings → POM Tweaks → White labelling → Admin bar → Hide toolbar elements to remove selected WordPress toolbar items. This guide is for site administrators who want to simplify navigation without changing user permissions.
Discover and configure
- Sign in with permission to manage the site's settings. Open Settings → POM Tweaks → White labelling → Admin bar, enable Hide toolbar elements, and click Save.
- In Toolbar element rules, choose Administration or Frontend under Context.
- Enter an Example URL on this site. Use a dashboard, content list, settings screen, existing editor, public page, or archive. For multilingual sites, use the final language URL after any redirect.
- Click Discover toolbar elements. The tool requests that actual page as your signed-in user and displays the elements registered there by WordPress, the theme, and plugins. It can discover elements already hidden by this control.
- Use Filter elements by name or ID to find an item. Select its checkbox to hide it. Hiding a parent or group also removes its descendants; the list identifies children affected by a parent rule.
- Click Save toolbar rules. Wait for Toolbar rules saved. before changing context or leaving the page.
- Repeat for the other context if needed, then reload the actual administration or public page to verify the result.
The page Save button controls activation. Save toolbar rules saves the element choices for the inspected context.
Scope and conditional elements
Rules apply throughout the selected context for all users of this site, including administrators. The example URL discovers the available elements; it does not restrict a rule to that single URL. Administration rules do not change frontend rules, and these controls do not affect Network Admin or the network user dashboard.
Different pages and roles can register different items. Inspect a representative public page to discover its edit link, or an existing editor to inspect content-dependent menus. Discovery shows only what is registered for the current account in that request; it does not impersonate other roles or invent a fixed list.
A saved item absent from the example remains listed with Saved rule; element not found in this example. Its rule is retained until you uncheck it and save. Refreshing discovery never deletes missing rules. To restore a child, remove both its own rule and any parent rule that hides it.
Discovery temporarily bypasses this control and toolbar visibility preferences inside the inspection request. Hide the toolbar on the frontend and user profile preferences still apply to normal pages. The tool does not restore nodes that other plugins have already unregistered or elements added only by browser scripts after the page loads.
Verify or undo
Check an administration screen and a public page after saving. Confirm that the chosen parent or child is absent, unrelated items remain available, and the other context keeps its previous behavior. Repeat the check with a representative editor account.
To restore an element, discover its context, clear its checkbox, and click Save toolbar rules. To suspend all these rules, clear Enable for Hide toolbar elements, click Save, and reload. Your choices remain available for later reuse. No posts, metadata, or role capabilities are deleted.
Troubleshooting
- Discovery fails: use the final URL after redirects, ensure you are still signed in, and choose a page that renders the WordPress toolbar. Refresh the settings page if the session expired. Action URLs, external URLs, fragments, and unsupported query parameters are rejected.
- A rule is missing from the example: inspect a page where that plugin or content type normally adds it. Previously saved missing items remain available in the list.
- An item remains hidden after clearing its checkbox: check parent rules, other plugins, profile preferences, and Hide the toolbar on the frontend.
- A save reports another session changed the rules: discover again to load the current settings, review them, and reapply the intended changes.
