Manage blog features

Site administrators can configure seven independent controls under Settings → POM Tweaks → Content → Blog. Enable the controls you need and select Save. Each applies only to the current site.

Revision cleanup is available in Tools → Optimization Tools. It has no separate Blog switch.

Show images in content lists

Enable Thumbnails in content lists to add a Thumbnail column in post, page, and custom post type administration lists. It shows the featured image, otherwise the oldest attached image, otherwise a dash. A column already supplied with the same identifier is retained.

Verify an item with a featured image, one with only an attached image, and one without images. This setting does not add images to frontend content or change attachments.

Include empty categories

Enable Show empty categories to include empty categories in WordPress category widgets, their dropdown form, and category-list blocks. It does not change arbitrary taxonomy queries or other taxonomies. Themes that render their own category lists may use separate settings.

Check a frontend list with a known empty category. Disabling this control restores the widget or block's own behavior.

Control pingbacks and trackbacks

  • Disable pingbacks and trackbacks closes incoming pings, removes their XML-RPC methods and discovery information, removes editing controls, and stops core outgoing pingbacks and trackbacks. Ordinary comments, existing records, other XML-RPC services, and enclosure processing remain available.
  • Disable self pingbacks removes outgoing pingback targets belonging to this site's host and URL path. Links to other domains and sibling sites in a subdirectory network remain eligible. Protocol changes between normal HTTP and HTTPS addresses do not make a link external.

If both are active, the broader pingback control takes precedence. These settings do not delete existing comments, pingbacks, or trackbacks and do not send test notifications when enabled. Other plugins that send their own notifications can have separate controls.

Remove post classification features

  • Disable post categories detaches categories from ordinary posts and returns a 404 response for category archives.
  • Disable post tags detaches tags from ordinary posts and returns a 404 response for tag archives.
  • Disable post formats removes the theme's post-format support.

Existing terms and assignments are preserved. Categories and tags attached to other post types retain those associations, although the corresponding built-in archive routes are disabled. Review existing navigation links when disabling archives; the separate empty-category setting does not restore those archives.

Check the Posts menu and editor, then visit an existing archive URL. Disable the relevant control and save to restore normal support and archive behavior. Post formats appear only if the theme normally supports them.

Verify and troubleshoot

Reload affected screens after saving.

Disabling a control removes its runtime behavior while keeping its configuration. If a content column or frontend list differs from the examples, check the relevant theme or plugin's own list implementation.
