Build a consistent branded administration experience

This workflow coordinates the modern appearance module with the modern branding and text-replacement controls. It changes presentation and terminology; it does not grant or revoke access.

Prepare the brand specification

Collect the approved logos, colors, typography, terminology, footer message, and login requirements. Record the current toolbar, sidebar, notices, block editor, media modal, login form, and frontend toolbar before changing them.

Apply structure and appearance first

  1. Open Settings → POM Tweaks → White labelling → Admin appearance.
  2. Enable Admin appearance and configure toolbar height, sidebar width, navigation states, content colors, buttons, and notices.
  3. Add Toolbar logo or Folded sidebar toolbar logo only after checking their available space.
  4. Configure login logo, background, form, labels, inputs, buttons, and recovery-link visibility.
  5. Use Admin CSS, Frontend toolbar CSS, and Login CSS only for requirements not covered by named fields.

Open Settings → POM Tweaks → White labelling → Branding for the administration footer, Help, Screen Options, page-title suffix, Jetpack promotions, WordPress display name, or Admin text replacements. Enable only the controls you need and save. For the display name, footer, or text-replacement list, configure the fields after initialization and save again.

Use White labelling → Login & registration for login-logo destinations and login text behavior.

Use Admin text replacements → Replacement rules for exact, case-sensitive terminology changes. Add Search and Replace with pairs, then drag rows into the desired order. A result produced by an earlier row can become input for a later row. There is no fixed ten-rule limit. Use specific phrases and inspect core, theme, and plugin screens because all three can supply translated strings. JavaScript-only text and labels prepared before the module loads may stay unchanged.

Use Settings → POM Tweaks → White labelling → Admin bar for the logout shortcut, account greeting, and frontend toolbar visibility. Each has its own enable control. Enter Account greeting with %s for the display name after enabling the greeting control and saving.

On the same page, enable Hide toolbar elements to discover real elements from an example administration or frontend URL. Save each context independently with Save toolbar rules.

Accessibility and compatibility review

  1. Check normal, hover, focus, active, disabled, warning, success, error, and information states.
  2. Test desktop, narrow viewports, expanded and folded sidebar, block editor, Customizer, and media modal.
  3. Inspect the toolbar in administration and on a public page.
  4. Test login failure, password reset, registration when enabled, and logout confirmation.
  5. Repeat with an administrator and a non-administrator role.
  6. Confirm custom terminology does not make support instructions or plugin labels ambiguous.

If branding blocks access, disable Admin appearance first. Its saved values remain available for correction. Clear a replacement row's Search to pause that rule, or disable Admin text replacements to restore the underlying translations while keeping the saved list.
