Apply sale prices to a product category
Use Category sale prices to bulk edit catalog offers for a category. This tool changes each matching product’s WooCommerce sale price; saving a rule alone does not change prices. It is intended for store administrators with product-editing permissions.
Set up and apply an offer
- Activate WooCommerce and open Settings → POM Tweaks → E-Commerce → Promotions.
- Enable Category sale prices and save. Add an item to Category sale rules.
- Choose a Category, leave Allow applying this rule checked, and select a fixed amount or percentage in Discount type. Enter the discount from the regular price.
- Optionally enter Sale starts and Sale ends in
YYYY-MM-DDformat. Dates use the site timezone. The start includes midnight; the end includes the whole final day. Leave either date empty for no boundary on that side. - Save. In Preview sale changes, select the saved rule and Apply sale prices, then click Preview.
- Review the first batch of product names, previous sale prices, proposed prices and dates. Click Confirm changes to all matching products to process the complete selection. Keep the page open until completion.
Keep a catalog backup before applying offers you may need to undo. Applying a rule replaces existing sale prices and dates, including manually entered offers. Discounts use the regular price, cannot create negative prices, and percentages must be between 0 and 100, excluding zero.
Enter decimal amounts with a point, for example 8.50, without thousands separators.
Which products change?
The tool includes published simple products directly assigned to the selected category and published variations of directly assigned variable products. A parent category does not automatically include products assigned only to its children. POM custom product taxonomies are also available when registered. Unsupported product types and products you cannot edit are skipped.
A rule is a saved bulk operation. New products, changed category assignments or edited regular prices do not cause the rule to run automatically. If selections overlap, the last operation applied determines their sale prices. WooCommerce controls when scheduled sales start and expire; its scheduled actions must be working.
Clear or stop an offer
Select the saved rule, choose Clear sale prices, preview, then confirm. This clears current sale prices and dates for the selection, regardless of how those offers were created. It does not restore offers that were overwritten previously; use your catalog backup for that.
Unchecking Allow applying this rule, deleting a rule or disabling the tweak prevents future use of that rule or tool. Existing product offers remain in WooCommerce until cleared, edited or expired.
Verify and troubleshoot
After completion, edit a matching simple product and a variation and verify their sale prices and dates. Check an unassigned product as well. A preview does not modify products and only shows the first batch. The final result reports changed and skipped products.
If a rule changed in another tab, reload and preview again. If a batch fails or the page closes, some products may already have changed; inspect them before rerunning. Reapplying the same rule calculates from regular prices and does not compound the discount. An unavailable category must be replaced with a registered product category before applying it.
For discounts that depend on the customer’s cart quantity, see Quantity discounts.
