Dynamic SKU behavior reference
The generated value is the current microtime with its decimal separator removed. Treat it as an opaque unique identifier, not as a stable date, product sequence, or human-readable stock code.
| Event | Empty SKU | Existing SKU |
|---|---|---|
| Insert a new simple or variable product | Generated | Preserved |
| Save a variation | Generated | Preserved |
| Update an existing simple product | Not backfilled by the product-insert rule | Preserved |
| Duplicate a product | New value assigned | Source value is not reused |
| Save duplicated variations | New values assigned | Duplicate flow replaces copied values |
Operational implications
- Disabling stops future assignment but does not clear generated SKUs.
- Re-enabling does not renumber existing products.
- Imports that supply an SKU keep their supplied value.
- An integration that expects a specific SKU pattern should not use this module.
- External inventory systems can receive generated values as soon as WooCommerce saves and synchronizes the product.
Before enabling on a connected store, create and duplicate representative products in staging and confirm exports, feeds, search, barcodes, ERP synchronization, and warehouse workflows accept the format.
