Redirect Dashboard and Add New Page
Use Admin redirects to send users to a preferred administration screen when they open Dashboard or Add New Page. The two destinations belong to one module and can be enabled independently. You need permission to manage the site's settings.
Configure the two destinations
- Open Settings → POM Tweaks → White labelling → Admin general settings.
- Enable Admin redirects and click Save to display its options.
- Select Redirect from Dashboard when opening Dashboard should lead elsewhere. Enter Dashboard destination, for example
edit.phpto open Posts. A working dashboard redirect also removes the Dashboard navigation item. - Select Redirect from Add New Page when opening Pages → Add New should lead to another screen. Enter Add New Page destination, for example
edit.php?post_type=pagefor the page list oradmin.php?page=web-add-new-pagefor an installed custom screen. - Click Save and open the affected screen again.
Enable either option or both. The module switch alone does not enable either redirect. Saved destinations remain available when the module is disabled.
Choose a destination
Enter a screen path relative to this site's wp-admin, with query parameters if needed. Do not include a full URL, a leading slash, a parent-directory path, or a network administration path. Choose an existing screen that the intended users have permission to open.
The destination must identify an administration PHP screen. AJAX, form-action, and upload-processing endpoints are not navigation destinations. Empty or invalid destinations do not redirect. A Dashboard destination that points back to Dashboard, an Add New Page destination that points back to itself, or a cycle between the two screens is ignored. Dashboard stays visible when its redirect cannot be used.
If Dashboard points to Add New Page and that option points to a valid final screen, users go directly to the final screen. Redirects created by other plugins remain outside this module's control.
Understand the scope
- Both options apply to all users of this site's administration, including administrators. WordPress still controls access to the destination.
- Redirect from Add New Page runs when the creation screen opens, before WordPress creates an automatic draft. It does not run after saving or publishing a page.
- Editing existing pages, adding posts or other content types, and submitting forms keep their normal behavior.
- Public pages, AJAX requests, Network Admin, and User Admin are unaffected.
- Only normal GET navigation is redirected, using a temporary redirect.
Verify and undo
- With only Dashboard enabled, open Dashboard and confirm the destination and hidden Dashboard navigation item.
- With only Add New Page enabled, open Pages → Add New and confirm its destination; Dashboard should remain available.
- Edit an existing page and verify that the editor opens normally.
- Clear either option and save to stop only that redirect. Disable Admin redirects and save to suspend both while retaining their configuration.
If a redirect does not run, check that both its option and the module are enabled, its destination is non-empty, and it does not lead back into either enabled source screen. If the destination shows a permission error, choose a screen the affected users can access. Keep the POM Tweaks settings page bookmarked while changing navigation destinations.
