Apply customer tax settings
Customer tax lets store managers apply a different product tax class or a price markup to selected customers or everyone. WooCommerce must be active. Configure the tax classes and rates you need in WooCommerce before enabling this tweak.
Configure the rule
- Open Settings → POM Tweaks → E-Commerce → Taxes.
- Select Enable and save to display the controls.
- Set Apply to to All customers and guests or Selected customer profiles.
- Choose the Tax class and Action, then click Save.
- For selected profiles, open Users, edit a customer, select Special tax user, and update the user. Only store managers with permission to edit that user can change this selection.
| Action | Result |
|---|---|
| Replace product tax class | Uses the selected class for qualifying customers, including product variations. WooCommerce still controls whether taxes apply and which location-based rates match. |
| Add tax-rate markup to product prices | Increases the product price by the matching rates from the selected class. Multiple and compound rates are included. The original product tax class remains in use, so its ordinary taxes still apply. This is a price markup, not a separate tax line. |
The rule does not change stored product prices or make non-taxable products taxable. Ordinary administration screens retain their usual product values. Markup leaves empty prices and products with no matching rates unchanged. If another extension explicitly sets a cart item's price, that extension retains control of it. With Customer role prices, the markup follows the selected role price.
Verify and reverse
Compare a selected customer, an unselected customer and a guest. Check a simple product, a variation and the cart. All customers and guests includes visitors who have not signed in; Selected customer profiles requires a signed-in selected user. Check tax location and exemption settings when comparing totals.
If the rule has no effect, confirm that its tax class still exists and has rates for the customer's location. For replacement mode, also check that WooCommerce taxes are enabled and the product is taxable. For markup mode, compare the product amount separately from the ordinary tax calculation.
Clear Special tax user to stop applying a manual rule to one customer, or disable the tweak and save to stop it for everyone. Customer selections remain available when the tweak is re-enabled.
