Add fees for selected payment methods
Use Payment method fees to add a fixed or percentage fee when a shopper selects a particular WooCommerce payment method. Each method can have its own amount, label and tax treatment.
You need WooCommerce and permission to manage POM Tweaks settings. Enable and configure the payment methods themselves under WooCommerce → Settings → Payments first.
Configure a fee
- Open Settings → POM Tweaks → E-Commerce → Cart & checkout.
- Enable Payment method fees and save to open its settings.
- Click Add new and leave Enable this fee checked.
- Choose the Payment method. Methods disabled in WooCommerce are identified; unavailable saved methods remain visible for review.
- In Calculate the fee as, choose Fixed amount or Percentage of products.
- Enter Amount / percentage. For example,
2.50adds a fixed fee of 2.50 in the checkout currency;3with percentage selected adds 3%. A decimal comma is accepted. - Optionally enter a Fee label. If empty, the payment method title is followed by “fee”.
- Select Fee tax: standard rate, another configured tax class, or Not taxable.
- Save, reopen the rule and check the saved values.
Add one rule for each method that needs a fee. Uncheck Enable this fee to pause a row without losing its configuration. If several enabled, valid rows target the same method, only the first one applies. A notice identifies duplicates in the editor.
How the amount is calculated
A percentage uses the product total after coupon discounts, excluding product tax, shipping and all fees. Products totalling 100 after discounts produce a fee of 3 with a 3% rule. The fee itself does not increase the percentage base.
Fixed amounts are entered before tax. WooCommerce calculates any fee tax using the selected class, customer location, exemption status and the store's tax settings. A zero, negative or invalid amount does not add a fee. A saved tax class that is no longer available prevents that fee from applying.
The fee follows the selected available method. A method hidden by payment restrictions or disabled by another extension does not incur its fee. Changing methods replaces the previous fee; recalculating the cart does not accumulate additional copies. Once a method has been selected, its fee can also appear when returning to the cart.
Checkout and order behavior
Classic checkout, including POM Theme's checkout, updates the totals when the payment selection changes. Checkout blocks use WooCommerce's native cart update API. The method must itself support the checkout interface you use.
WooCommerce stores the fee as a normal order fee line, so it is included in order totals, administration and emails. Changes to these settings apply to new cart calculations; they do not rewrite existing orders, add fees to an existing order's payment link, or configure automatic recurring subscription fees. This feature does not process payments or enable payment gateways.
Verify and troubleshoot
Use a cart with a known product total. Select a method with a fixed fee, one with a percentage fee, and one without a fee. Check the fee label and total after each change. Apply a coupon and confirm that percentage fees use the discounted product total. Review tax with an appropriate customer address.
If no fee appears, check the module switch, row switch, positive amount, payment method availability and tax class. If the wrong rule applies, look for an earlier active row for the same method. After disabling the module, refresh the cart or checkout to recalculate its totals.
