WooCommerce Product Add-Ons
Product Add-Ons adds optional or required customer fields to WooCommerce product pages. A group can be assigned to every product, selected product categories, or individual products, while one-off fields can be created directly in a product's Add-Ons data tab. Reusable choices let one option appear in several fields or groups and be disabled everywhere from one record.
The module is standalone. It does not require POM Theme, and every custom form control includes the form-control class so compatible themes and Bootstrap-based sites can inherit their own styling. POM Tweaks supplies only a small fallback stylesheet.
Why choose POM Product Add-Ons
The official WooCommerce Product Add-Ons extension is a good fit for straightforward personalization such as text, files, checkboxes, images, and basic surcharges. Choose the POM module when the product experience or catalog workflow needs more control:
- Conditional customer journeys: show, hide, enable, or disable fields according to earlier answers without adding another form extension.
- Reusable operational choices: maintain one option across several fields or groups, schedule its availability, stop it everywhere, or give it one shared capacity across products.
- Precise catalog targeting: combine products, product types, categories, tags, attributes, and other product taxonomies with explicit include and exclude rules.
- More presentation choices: use text, color, or image swatches; collapsible groups; guided steps; and an optional responsive selection summary.
- Safer catalog changes: prepare drafts, inspect affected products and references, publish the complete revision together, and restore an earlier revision without rewriting existing orders.
- More commercial control: add quantity tiers, coupon behavior, subscription charge phases, Bookings multipliers, and country-zone amounts while WooCommerce remains authoritative for tax and totals.
- Shareable starting points: opt suitable fields into URL synchronization so a campaign, sales representative, or customer can reopen a prepared public configuration.
- Controlled migration: transfer definitions through preflighted JSON or WooCommerce CSV and retain supported official REST, Store API, cart, order, webhook, Ability, hook, and PHP contracts during a managed cutover.
These advantages matter most for stores with shared option catalogs, changing availability, complex pricing, or a designed multi-step experience. For a small number of stable fields on one product, the simpler official workflow may still be the more appropriate choice.
Before you begin
- WooCommerce and POM Tweaks must be active.
- You need permission to manage WooCommerce.
- Enable Product Add-Ons under Settings → POM Tweaks → E-Commerce → Products.
- Do not run its storefront together with the official WooCommerce Product Add-Ons extension. When that extension is active, POM Tweaks keeps its own storefront handlers dormant to prevent duplicated fields and prices.
Recommended setup path
- Migrate an existing WooCommerce Product Add-Ons catalog, when applicable.
- Create reusable choices and Product Add-On groups, then transfer configurations with JSON.
- Follow the worked tutorials to create a Gift wrapping add-on and configure a variable product.
- Manage reusable-choice schedules and optional shared capacity.
- Add deterministic conditional rules between fields.
- Review and publish drafts, inspect impact, and restore earlier revisions.
- Transfer product-owned configuration with WooCommerce product CSV.
- Review storefront fields, choose a price type, and understand validation.
- Understand cart, session, order, and order-again behavior.
- Use Product Add-Ons with Blocks and the Store API.
- Manage Product Add-Ons through the authenticated REST API.
- Keep supported official WooCommerce Product Add-Ons contracts.
- Integrate templates, translations, private files, Composite, Bookings, Subscriptions, and country pricing.
- Check Product Add-Ons health and copy a redacted support report.
- Let customers save and share complete configurations.
- Test one simple product and one variable product before assigning a group to the full catalog.
Expected result
Assigned fields appear in classic product forms and WooCommerce's Add to Cart with Options Block. Valid selections follow the item into classic or Block carts and orders, and WooCommerce calculates tax and totals from the server-adjusted line price.
Compatibility boundary
The built-in fields render on product forms that execute WooCommerce's standard pre-button integration, including the Add to Cart with Options Block. Products with configurable add-ons link to their product page instead of using the archive AJAX add-to-cart action. Custom Store API clients can discover and submit the public model directly, but they must supply their own add-on interface and cannot upload file bodies through the JSON add-to-cart request.
Disabling the POM Tweaks module stops its administration, fields, validation, and pricing hooks. Existing order metadata remains readable in WooCommerce.
