Review overlapping tweak behavior

Use this review before enabling two components that filter the same WordPress or WooCommerce result. Independent switches can still produce one shared response, so a valid setting is not evidence that the final combination is valid.

Establish the baseline

  1. Record the current output with all proposed components disabled.
  2. Identify the request being changed: administration screen, feed, login, image generation, email, product price, cart, or checkout.
  3. Note every theme, plugin, CDN, mail provider, and cache that also modifies that request.
  4. Decide which component should be authoritative when two rules disagree.

Configure modules in their sections under Settings → POM Tweaks. On multisite, update and theme policies belong to Network Admin → Settings → POM Tweaks.

Combinations that require an explicit choice

Feeds

Disable all site feeds in the RSS feed module returns HTTP 410 for WordPress feed requests. Custom feed headers, footers, and featured images cannot make a disabled endpoint useful. Remove standard feed links and Remove extra feed links change discovery markup but do not by themselves close direct feed URLs.

Generator output

Under Settings → POM Tweaks → Optimization → HTML head cleanup, Remove generator from the HTML head hides the HTML tag. Use a custom generator replaces generator output in HTML and public feeds. With both enabled, HTML has no generator tag and feeds retain the custom value. See Choose public head metadata for format details and limits.

Updates

Do not pair an automatic-update rule with a rule that suppresses updates for the same plugin or theme. Define the update policy first, then enable only the component that expresses it. Hiding the Updates menu or footer version is presentation and does not stop update checks.

Administration appearance

Modern Admin appearance generates CSS for the toolbar, sidebar, notices, login screen, and content area. Modern Branding and Admin bar controls can rename text or hide the frontend toolbar, while Hide toolbar elements can remove individual nodes in those same locations. Apply structural choices first, then appearance, and use custom CSS last.

WooCommerce prices

Category discounts write sale values to products. Quantity discounts and reduced-price roles calculate prices during display or cart processing. Gateway fees are added later during checkout. Stacking them requires a test matrix because each layer uses a different price source and lifecycle.

Test one layer at a time

  1. Enable the first component and verify its positive and negative case.
  2. Record the final response or calculated value.
  3. Enable the second component and repeat the same cases.
  4. Reverse the activation order to expose order-dependent results.
  5. Disable the first component and confirm the second still works alone.
  6. Clear only caches that store the affected response.

For stored-price writers, filesystem changes, or media processing, restore the baseline from backup instead of assuming switch order can undo earlier writes.
