Limit quantity to available stock
Use this control to keep classic product and cart quantity inputs within their available maximum while customers type or use the theme's quantity buttons. It works with WooCommerce and POM Theme's native quantity controls.
Enable the control
- Confirm WooCommerce stock management is enabled and configure each product's inventory and backorder policy.
- Open Settings → POM Tweaks → E-Commerce → Products → Limit quantity to available stock.
- Select Enable and click Save.
- Open a product with known stock and enter a larger quantity. The input should return to its permitted maximum.
How limits are chosen
- A stock-managed product without backorders uses its available stock. A stricter maximum from another extension is retained.
- A variable product uses the selected variation's native WooCommerce maximum, including stock inherited from its parent. Changing variations updates the limit.
- Products without stock management and products allowing backorders retain their native availability rules; missing stock is not treated as a zero limit.
- Sold-individually products retain WooCommerce's one-item restriction.
- Decimal quantities are supported when the store's quantity extension enables them. The browser correction respects the input's step and minimum instead of rounding everything to whole units.
Clearing an input or entering a lower value does not immediately replace it. Normal minimum and step validation still applies. The displayed limit is not a stock reservation: WooCommerce checks current availability when adding products, updating the cart and checking out, including quantities already in the cart.
Verify and troubleshoot
Compare a simple product, two variations with different stock, an unlimited product and a backorder product. Try typing above the maximum and using the plus button. Repeat in the classic cart and confirm the displayed and submitted quantity agree.
This enhancement uses classic quantity inputs. Cart and Checkout blocks keep their own native quantity rules and interface. A third-party product configurator must render compatible WooCommerce quantity controls to receive the browser correction. If a limit is lower than stock, review sold-individually settings and other purchase-limit extensions.
Disable Enable and save to remove this enhancement. WooCommerce's normal stock validation remains active.
