Move the short description into a product tab
Use Short description tab when a product’s introductory text should appear with its detailed information instead of beside its image and purchase controls.
This setting moves each product’s Product short description into a separate tab. It does not rewrite product content or replace the full description, reviews, additional information, or extra product tabs.
Set up the tab
You need WooCommerce, permission to manage POM Tweaks, and a product template that renders the classic WooCommerce summary and product tabs. POM Theme supports these hooks.
- Open Settings → POM Tweaks → E-Commerce → Products.
- Enable Short description tab.
- Enter a Tab label, such as “Overview”. Leave it empty to use Short description. The label is shared by all products and supports the site’s string translation integration.
- Click Save.
- Open a product in Products → All products. Add or edit its Product short description, then update the product.
- View the product on the storefront. Its short description now appears inside the new tab and is absent from the standard summary.
Content and layout
- The normal WooCommerce short-description formatting and registered shortcodes still apply.
- A short description whose formatted output is empty does not create a tab.
- The tab keeps the standard early position, alongside the full description and before the usual additional information and reviews tabs. Other extensions can change tab order.
- POM Theme controls the location and presentation of the tab group, including its accordion layout.
- Independent Product Summary blocks, catalog excerpts, and templates that bypass the native summary or tabs hooks are outside this setting’s scope.
Verify and troubleshoot
Compare two products with different short descriptions: each must show its own content. Check a product with an empty short description and confirm there is no empty tab. The full description and other enabled tabs should remain present.
If the new tab is missing, check that the product has a short description and that your template renders WooCommerce product tabs. If the description appears twice, check for a manually inserted summary block or custom template output. Clear your page cache after changing the setting.
To restore the default summary position, disable Short description tab and save. Product content remains stored.
