Customize WooCommerce emails

Use this workflow to coordinate global WordPress mail filters with WooCommerce-specific email content. Test real generated messages; an administration preview cannot reproduce every recipient, order state, header, and plain-text branch.

Separate the available layers

Global WordPress mail

Settings → POM Tweaks → White labelling → Email sender provides independent sender address and name overrides for WordPress mail. An authenticated delivery provider or a later WooCommerce filter can replace them.

Message content and formatting come from WordPress or the plugin that creates each notification. WooCommerce supplies its own email templates and HTML or plain-text format; the sender module leaves those unchanged.

WooCommerce mail

Under Settings → POM Tweaks → E-Commerce → Emails, Additional recipient email collects an optional recipient email, name and personal message at checkout. It sends that person a separate message with its own configured content when the order starts processing or is completed. It does not copy the standard order notification or change the shipping address. The optional buyer fallback sends this extra message to the billing email when no recipient was entered.

Under Settings → POM Tweaks → E-Commerce → Emails, Email content blocks adds reusable text or HTML at selected native positions, with notification selection and plain-text alternatives. Email CSS appends custom CSS to HTML messages while leaving plain-text messages unchanged. Custom WooCommerce emails lets you configure additional order, account and booking notifications. Each event has its own enabled state, recipient policy, subject, heading, HTML body, category rules, attachments and format. All original merge tags remain supported. The corresponding entries in WooCommerce → Settings → Emails link back to this configuration.

Product images and their dimensions follow the active WooCommerce email templates. WooCommerce's enhanced HTML email design includes product images; plain-text emails do not display images.

Verify delivery and content

  1. Use non-sensitive staging addresses for the customer, administrator, and optional additional recipient.
  2. Trigger every selected order or booking event rather than resending one unrelated email.
  3. Inspect From name, From address, Reply-To, recipient, subject, HTML, links, product images, custom order information, and additional-address note.
  4. Generate the corresponding plain-text email and confirm it remains understandable without CSS or images.
  5. Check the mail provider’s accepted sender and authentication result.
  6. Confirm that disabling the custom email stops only that extra message and leaves WooCommerce’s standard notifications active.

Saved additional-recipient values remain with existing orders when their sending component is disabled. Content blocks are shared settings; they do not collect checkout information or change stored orders.
