Control author support for each content type
Use Author support by post type to remove WordPress's native author controls from selected types of content. For example, pages can stop offering an author selector while posts keep it. Site administrators configure this under Settings → POM Tweaks → Content → Authors.
Choose the affected types
- Enable Author support by post type and select Save.
- Under Remove author support for these post types, select each type that should lose author support.
- Select Save, reopen the same tab, and confirm the selections persisted.
- Edit content of a selected type and an unselected type. Only the selected type should lose its native author controls.
Each checkbox shows the content-type label and its technical name in parentheses so similarly named types remain distinguishable. The list discovers registered types with author support, including posts, pages, custom post types and internal WordPress types that declare that feature. Types without author support are omitted unless they were previously selected.
No types are selected by default. Types introduced later by a theme or plugin appear when detected and start unchecked. Checked types remain visible after their author support is removed. A saved type whose plugin is temporarily unavailable is shown as Unavailable post type with its technical name; its selection remains available when the plugin returns. Keep the relevant plugins and theme active when reviewing the list.
What changes
- Selected types lose native author support, including the author panel and other WordPress editing controls that depend on that feature. Native REST schemas also reflect the removed support.
- Unselected types retain their normal author support.
- Public author archives exclude selected types from their existing query. If that query has no permitted type left, it returns HTTP 404. The module does not automatically add other post types to the archive.
- Stored author assignments are preserved. Saving an existing item after removing its author panel does not erase its author.
This does not delete users, rewrite ownership or change editing permissions. It is not a privacy or permission restriction: theme bylines, custom author widgets, direct database access, or integrations that ignore native support may still use the stored author. Configure those integrations separately when needed.
On multisite, selections apply to the current site. There is no separate Network Admin configuration for this module.
Verify and reverse changes
- Confirm the chosen type no longer offers native author editing and an unselected type still does.
- Save a small edit to existing content and verify its author assignment remains intact after restoring support.
- Check an author archive containing a selected type and one containing an unselected type. Selected content should be excluded without changing the unselected content's normal availability.
- To restore one type, uncheck it and save. To restore all support removed by this module, disable its top-level Enable checkbox and save. Reload the editor to see the restored controls.
If a type is missing, confirm its plugin is active and it declares WordPress author support. If a panel remains absent after restoration, check the editor's panel preferences and other plugins. If an archive remains unavailable with this module disabled, check the site's permalink, language and archive configuration.
