Send cart visitors directly to checkout
Use Redirect cart to checkout when customers should continue from a populated cart directly to the checkout form. The redirect applies when a visitor opens the assigned Cart page; it does not change every add-to-cart action or replace cart links throughout the store.
This guide is for WooCommerce store administrators. Configure separate Cart and published Checkout pages in WooCommerce before enabling the control. Check that checkout offers everything customers need without visiting Cart, especially quantity changes, shipping choices, and coupons.
Enable the redirect
- Open Settings → POM Tweaks → E-Commerce → Cart & checkout.
- Enable Redirect cart to checkout.
- Click Save.
Visitors with a non-empty cart receive a temporary redirect to the checkout URL. Empty carts remain on Cart. The control supports assigned Cart pages using either the WooCommerce Cart block or the classic cart shortcode, and applies to the current site on multisite.
Only ordinary GET and HEAD page requests are redirected. Cart POST requests, WooCommerce AJAX, Store API requests, feeds, and previews retain their normal behavior. Native cart processing still runs before the redirect. If an add-to-cart action opens Cart afterward, that resulting page visit may continue to checkout.
Verify the customer journey
- Open Cart with an empty cart. Confirm that its empty-cart message appears.
- Add a staging product and then open Cart. Confirm that checkout appears with the correct product and quantity.
- Open Checkout directly and confirm that it stays on Checkout without a redirect loop.
- Check the store's mini-cart, product configurators, shipping choices, and any custom cart actions.
- Disable the control and save. A populated Cart page should become accessible again.
Troubleshoot and reverse the change
The redirect is skipped when Checkout is missing, unpublished, or assigned to the same page as Cart. A filtered checkout URL that resolves back to Cart or points to an unapproved external host is also skipped. Check page assignments and any extension that changes these URLs.
Redirect responses include no-cache headers because cart contents vary by visitor. Keep Cart and Checkout excluded from page caches and ensure external caches respect these headers. If a browser still redirects after disabling the control, clear any previously cached redirect and verify that no other extension redirects Cart.
Disable Redirect cart to checkout and save to restore normal navigation. Cart contents, orders, page assignments, and the separate menu-icon setting are not changed by enabling or disabling this control.
