Offer quantity discounts by category
Quantity discounts adjusts unit prices in the cart when quantities reach your category thresholds. It leaves catalog prices unchanged and works through WooCommerce’s cart calculation for classic cart/checkout and Cart/Checkout blocks.
Configure thresholds
- Activate WooCommerce. Open Settings → POM Tweaks → E-Commerce → Promotions, enable Quantity discounts, and save.
- Choose Discount type: an amount per unit in the store currency, or a percentage per unit.
- Choose Price to discount. Current unit price starts from the current sale or customer price available when the rule runs. Regular price starts from the regular price and can replace a lower sale price. Existing configurations brought over from the classic tool retain the regular-price calculation.
- Choose When several thresholds apply: the lowest or highest resulting unit price. All reached thresholds compete; discounts never add together.
- Under Quantity thresholds, add one item per category and threshold. Set a positive Minimum category quantity and Discount per unit. Percentages cannot exceed 100. You can add more than five tiers.
- Choose whether to Show the quantity discount table, then save.
Enter decimal amounts with a point, for example 8.50, without thousands separators.
How quantities and prices work
Quantities combine across products directly assigned to the same category. Two units of one product plus three of another make a category quantity of five. A variation uses its parent product’s categories and its own unit price. Products assigned only to a child category do not count toward a parent rule.
For example, a category can give 10 currency units off at quantity two and 20 off at quantity five. With the lowest-price choice and five qualifying units, the 20-unit discount applies to each qualifying unit. A product belonging to multiple qualifying categories uses the selected lowest/highest result across all of them.
When quantities fall below a threshold or items are removed, prices are recalculated. Repeated recalculation does not compound discounts. Prices cannot become negative. WooCommerce then calculates taxes and coupons using the resulting cart prices. Coupons remain separate and can provide a further reduction.
POM Frequently bought together pack lines and POM composite lines keep their own pricing and do not contribute to these thresholds. When combining other pricing extensions, verify the final cart price: a later pricing rule may change the result.
Display and verification
The optional table uses WooCommerce’s classic product summary, including POM Theme layouts that render that summary. It displays quantities and discounts per category, including on variable products. Custom block product templates must render the classic hook to show the table; cart calculations do not depend on it.
Check a product at quantities below, at and above a threshold, then reduce the quantity again. Try a variation, a sale product and a cart combining products from the same category. Verify final totals and tax display, not only the table. Unavailable categories and incomplete, zero or invalid tiers do not apply.
Disable Quantity discounts to stop these cart adjustments. No product catalog prices need to be restored. For catalog offers independent of cart quantity, use Category sale prices.
