Translate product variation output

A variation remains part of one variable product. POM Translate localizes the customer-facing product and option text while WooCommerce keeps the same variation IDs, SKUs, stock, and prices in every language.

Translate taxonomy-based options

Global attributes such as Color or Size use attribute taxonomies. Translate the attribute label and each term before testing the variation selector.

When WooCommerce supplies the complete term object to its variation-option filter, POM Translate resolves the exact translated term. Templates that provide only the visible label remain compatible and can use a previously registered translation.

See Product attributes and terms for the term workflow.

Translate the variable product

  1. Translate the parent product title and descriptions.
  2. Translate every global attribute term used by its variations.
  3. Save the base product after adding or renaming variations.
  4. Open the target-language product page.
  5. Select each option combination.
  6. Confirm the variation title, option labels, availability text, price area, and reset control.
  7. Add the variation to the cart and inspect its metadata.

POM Translate translates variation titles and cart/order item metadata in the active or stored order locale. It does not change variation identifiers or selection values used internally by WooCommerce.

Custom product attributes

Attributes created only inside one product do not have a reusable WP_Term. Their visible labels depend on registered strings or the product's translated content. Verify them individually in selectors, cart lines, checkout, and emails.

Global taxonomy attributes provide the most reliable language-aware option lookup because each term has its own translation record.

Troubleshooting

If the selector is translated but the cart is not, refresh the cart fragments in the target language and remove the old cart line before testing again. If only one option remains in the source language, confirm that its exact term is translated and that the theme passes normal WooCommerce variation context.

Never translate slugs or technical attribute keys inside variation data. Translate only the public label and term text.
