Set the daily word limit

The Daily word limit caps the amount of source text this WordPress site can send through POM Translate machine translation in one WordPress calendar day.

The default is 10,000 words.

Configure the limit

  1. Open Settings → POM Translate → Advanced.
  2. Open LLM translation settings and Machine translation settings.
  3. Enter a non-negative number in Daily word limit.
  4. Save the settings.
  5. Open Translations → Generate pending translations and read Daily Word Quota in the Machine Translation Status card.

Set the value to 0 when no automatic source words should be accepted. To pause only scheduled queue creation while keeping manual POM AI actions available, use Disable background translation instead.

What POM Translate counts

The counter uses source text, not translated output. It counts Unicode word-like units and conservatively counts CJK characters. Protected formatting markers are part of the payload and therefore contribute to the same limit.

Before each request, POM Translate checks whether adding the complete batch would exceed the limit. It does not submit a partial remainder of that batch.

The counter increases when POM AI returns a usable translated group. A particular returned value may still fail the later marker or source-version check, so today's counted words can be higher than the words ultimately stored.

Changing the value during the day

Raising or lowering the setting does not rewrite usage already counted today.

  • If the new value remains above current usage, later requests can continue within the new remainder.
  • If the new value is below current usage, no further batch fits that day.
  • The counter starts at zero automatically on the next date in the WordPress timezone.

When you deliberately raise the cap and need a fresh allowance immediately, use Reset today's local counters. That action resets both words and strings, so confirm both limits first.
