Retire registered strings safely

POM Translate does not expose a public helper for deleting a registered string by name. Stop registering and rendering the value, then use supported administration cleanup only when the stored row has become genuinely orphaned.

Before retirement, search theme, plugin, email, REST, and cached output for consumers. Replace or redirect the public surface first, especially when the text appears in persistent templates.

Never delete registry or translation rows directly. Internal storage relationships and caches may change between versions.

If a string contains personal or sensitive data that should never have been registered, treat removal as a data-governance incident: stop collection, clear affected supported storage through an authorized maintenance path, and review backups and exports according to the site's retention policy.
