Translate custom taxonomy terms

A theme or plugin can register classifications such as locations, product brands, event types, or portfolio skills. POM Translate supports a custom taxonomy when it has a WordPress editing interface and is enabled for translation parsing.

Enable the taxonomy

  1. Confirm the theme or plugin that owns the taxonomy is active.
  2. Open Settings → POM Translate → Content types.
  3. Find the taxonomy under Taxonomies available for translation.
  4. Select Enable translations for this taxonomy.
  5. Save and reload the settings page.

If it is absent, it may not expose an administration interface or may not currently be registered. The post type using a taxonomy and the taxonomy itself have independent switches.

Populate and translate a term

  1. Open the taxonomy's normal WordPress term screen.
  2. Save a representative term with its current source name, slug, and optional description.
  3. Go to Translations → Translate contents and choose the target locale.
  4. Filter All objects to Term.
  5. Enter the exact taxonomy slug in Taxonomy (terms only) and select Filter.
  6. Translate the returned term rows and select Save translations.
  7. Open Translations → Translate URLs.
  8. Select Term, search for the item, and select Load slugs.
  9. Complete each additional-language slug and select Save slugs.

Respect the taxonomy model

POM Translate does not decide whether a custom taxonomy is hierarchical. If its registration permits parents, localized archive paths include ancestor segments. If it is flat, the route has no ancestry. Term metadata beyond name and description is not collected by the ordinary taxonomy parser.

Verify the actual frontend component supplied by the owning product. Some taxonomies are visible only in filters or API-driven interfaces; others have public archives, feeds, or SEO pages.

When no archive exists, translate only the wording the product renders. Do not promise or construct a public term URL that the taxonomy itself does not support.
