Translate term descriptions
A term description becomes translatable only when the source description is not empty. Whether visitors see it depends on the active theme, template, block, or integration.
Prepare structured copy
POM Translate protects common inline elements in descriptions, including links, spans, emphasis, code, superscript, subscript, marks, and images. Their structure may appear in the editor as placeholder tokens while the surrounding prose remains editable.
Before translating, remove obsolete markup and verify every source link. URLs found in description HTML can also participate in POM Translate's custom-link mapping.
Complete the description
- Edit the term in WordPress.
- Add or revise its source Description and save the term.
- Open Translations → Translate contents for the desired locale.
- Filter the object type to Term and locate the term.
- Find its
descriptionrow. - Translate the prose while preserving every protected token exactly.
- Select Save translations.
- Visit a template that actually renders the description.
If no row exists, confirm the source description is non-empty, the taxonomy is enabled, and the term was saved after activation.
Removing a description
When the source description is cleared and the term is saved, POM Translate reconciles the term and removes the now-unused description row. The name remains available. Re-adding a description later creates a current row on the next term save.
Verify rendered HTML
Check headings, paragraphs, links, emphasis, images, and responsive layout in the target language. A syntactically valid translation can still point to a source-language destination or become too long for the design.
Do not remove, duplicate, reorder incorrectly, or hand-edit placeholder markers. POM Translate rejects translations whose protected structure no longer matches the source.
