Launch a multilingual WooCommerce store
This recipe covers catalog content, shop navigation, cart and checkout responses, customer accounts, orders, and managed transactional emails.
Configure the catalog
- Enable products and the title, content, excerpt, and mapped metadata parts required by the theme.
- Enable product categories, tags, and public attribute taxonomies.
- Save a representative variable product after configuration.
- Translate its name, descriptions, mapped fields, category and attribute terms, variation-facing labels, and localized slugs.
- Translate shop navigation and registered interface text.
Prices, stock, SKUs, IDs, dimensions, tax data, and operational order metadata are not prose and should not be registered as translations.
Test the customer journey
Browse the localized shop while logged out, add a simple and variable product, update the cart, complete checkout, and open My Account endpoints. Confirm AJAX fragments, Store API responses, notices, breadcrumbs, tabs, attribute labels, and endpoint URLs stay in the chosen locale.
Preserve order and email language
POM Translate records the order locale during checkout and restores it for supported WooCommerce email rendering. Translate managed subjects, headings, additional content, footer text, and stable body strings. Preserve email placeholders and test both HTML and plain-text output.
Launch checks
Verify product canonicals, hreflang, Rank Math or Yoast sitemap behavior, cache variation, payment redirects, subscription or follow-up extensions, refunds, and administrator/customer email variants. Extension-owned content outside WooCommerce's standard hooks needs its own maintained integration.
