Import, export, and maintain translation data
POM Translate provides site-level tools for exporting stored text translations, importing a compatible JSON file, removing orphaned records, resetting local machine-translation usage, and clearing translation storage.
Open Settings → POM Translate → Tools → Translation maintenance. Access requires permission to manage POM Translate settings.
Choose the right operation
- Export translations downloads translated text and workflow statuses as JSON.
- Import translations matches that text against source strings already present on the destination site.
- Clean up orphaned data removes records whose content or locale is no longer valid.
- Reset today's machine-translation usage clears only the local daily counters.
- Reset translation storage permanently empties the main multilingual data tables.
These operations affect the current WordPress site. In multisite, review and run them separately on each relevant subsite.
What a JSON export contains
The export groups entries by locale. Each entry includes the exact source text, translated text, and its pending, mt, human, or reviewed status.
It is not a complete site backup. It does not include localized slugs, custom URL translations, exclusions, skeletons, plugin settings, WordPress posts, terms, menus, media, or machine-translation queues.
Safe maintenance order
- Finish or pause active translation work.
- Create a full database backup.
- Download and retain a fresh translation export.
- Test the intended operation on staging when possible.
- Run the smallest tool that solves the problem.
- Review its result message and validate representative public routes.
Use the backup guide before any destructive operation. For a site move, follow the migration checklist instead of treating the JSON file as a complete migration package.
