code: the locale definition code

{%code%} displays the code stored in the language definition. If no matching definition is available, POM Translate uses the raw locale identifier.

Use a compact technical label

Codes are useful when space is limited or the audience already understands the site's locale identifiers:

<strong>{%code%}</strong>

For a general audience, a language name is usually clearer:

{%local_label%} <small>{%code%}</small>

The code is HTML-escaped before insertion, while allowed surrounding markup is sanitized with the WordPress post-HTML policy.

Do not treat it as routing configuration

The displayed code does not select the locale, set the URL prefix, or alter the link target. POM Translate builds each selector URL separately from the target locale and current route. A code may also be more specific than a short language abbreviation.

Use slug only when you intentionally want to display the definition's slug, and country_iso for a compact country identifier.

Verify custom definitions

Inspect the result for every custom language definition and regional locale. Confirm that visitors can understand the abbreviations and that similar codes do not make two choices hard to distinguish.
