Handle external links
An absolute URL whose host differs from the site's configured home host is classified as External. POM Translate leaves that destination unchanged unless you save an explicit replacement for the current locale.
Choose the intended policy
Use one shared external URL when the third-party destination handles languages itself or has no language-specific page. Create a mapping when each locale must reach a different destination, such as separate booking pages, support portals, forms, or regional storefronts.
Save a language-specific external destination
- Ensure the external link appears in a saved menu or supported piece of content, or add it manually.
- Open Translations → Translate URLs → Custom links.
- Choose the target locale.
- Locate the External row by its Original URL and Used in details.
- Enter the complete destination, including its scheme and any required path or query.
- Select Save custom URLs.
- Test the link from the target-language public page.
The custom-links table is paginated and may contain URLs collected from menus, content, files, and iframe sources. Check the type and occurrence before editing a shared source URL: one mapping applies wherever that normalized source is rendered through the supported replacement pipeline.
Avoid accidental site localization
The normal internal URL helper compares the link host and port with the configured WordPress home address. A different host is returned unchanged, so POM Translate does not prepend the site's language code to an external destination.
Subdomains are different hosts. If a service uses shop.example.com while WordPress runs at www.example.com, treat it as external and provide explicit language destinations when required.
Verify third-party behavior
POM Translate controls the outgoing URL, not the remote service. Confirm that redirects, authentication, consent screens, geolocation, and language cookies on the destination do not override the locale you selected. Also retain any required query parameters in the mapped value; a replacement URL is a complete destination rather than a translated path fragment.
