Set the error threshold

The Error threshold controls when POM Translate temporarily pauses machine translation after repeated qualifying failures. The default is five and the minimum configurable value is one.

Configure it

  1. Open Settings → POM Translate → Advanced.
  2. Open LLM translation settings and Machine translation settings.
  3. Enter the number of qualifying failures allowed in Error threshold.
  4. Save the settings.
  5. Pair it with an appropriate backoff delay.

A low threshold protects credits and remote capacity aggressively but can pause work after a short-lived connection or authorization problem. A high threshold permits more attempts before the pause.

Which states do not open the circuit

Expected operator or content states do not count toward this pause, including:

  • insufficient POM AI credits;
  • reaching the local daily quota;
  • machine translation already paused or disabled;
  • an empty or oversized local batch;
  • changed protected markers;
  • empty, malformed, or otherwise unusable translated output.

These cases remain visible to the editor and may keep values pending, but retrying them does not turn a routine quota or quality problem into an excessive-error pause.

Unexpected authorization, connectivity, or service failures can count. Once the threshold is reached, Machine Translation Status reports MT is currently PAUSED due to excessive errors.

What to do after a pause

Do not simply repeat the same request. Check:

  1. the POM AI license and authorized host;
  2. outbound HTTPS connectivity;
  3. the latest browser or generator message;
  4. whether the failure affects a single string or every request.

The pause clears automatically after the configured backoff period when a later attempt checks the status. A successfully processed scheduled batch also returns the status to normal.

The threshold also caps unusable-output retries for an individual queued string at no more than three attempts. That separate safeguard is explained in Understand backoff and retries.
