Translate titles
When Title is enabled for a post type, POM Translate stores the non-empty post_title as one source row labeled Post title. Each target locale can then provide one corresponding title.
Enable title translation
Open Settings → POM Translate → Content types, locate the post type, and enable Title. Save the source object after it is published or private so the row is generated.
If the title is empty, no title row is created. If the whole post type is disabled, its field settings do not make it eligible on their own.
Edit a title
- Open Translations → Translate contents.
- Select the target locale.
- filter by Post and Object ID, or use Manage translations from the object editor;
- find the row whose context says Post title;
- enter the localized title;
- select Save translations.
A non-empty manual edit is stored with Human status. Clearing the textarea and saving changes the row to Pending, so the source title is rendered as fallback.
Distinguish title, slug, and SEO title
These values are independent:
| Value | Where to edit |
|---|---|
| Visible WordPress post title | Translations → Translate contents |
| Localized URL slug | Translations → Translate URLs |
| Registered SEO title metadata | A Field: _meta_key row when Meta is enabled |
| Browser title assembled by a theme or plugin | Depends on the title and software-string integration involved |
Changing the translated title does not update the localized slug. This is intentional: a public URL can remain stable while editorial wording changes.
Write for each display context
The same WordPress title may appear in:
- the page heading;
- archives and cards;
- menus that use the object title dynamically;
- breadcrumbs;
- related-content widgets;
- document and social titles assembled by SEO code.
Choose wording that works in narrow and full layouts. If a menu needs a shorter label, translate the menu item rather than distorting the canonical title.
Respond to source changes
When the source title changes and the post is saved, that title row no longer matches its previous source. POM Translate removes translations attached to the changed row and tries to reuse an existing exact match if one exists elsewhere.
Do not assume a minor punctuation edit will preserve every target title. Reload the locale summary and translate any newly missing row.
Verify the title
Check:
- the heading on the localized single view;
- archive cards and search results;
- breadcrumbs and dynamic menus;
- SEO and social previews;
- truncation on mobile;
- fallback behavior after deliberately clearing a test translation;
- the localized slug remains unchanged unless edited separately.
