Enable translation for a taxonomy
Enable a custom taxonomy when visitors see language-dependent term names or descriptions in archives, filters, breadcrumbs, cards, or navigation.
Categories and tags require no action: POM Translate always parses category and post_tag. The settings list contains only other taxonomies that expose a WordPress editing interface.
Enable and collect a term
- Open Settings → POM Translate → Content types.
- Find Taxonomies available for translation.
- Locate the taxonomy by its displayed label and slug.
- Select Enable translations for this taxonomy.
- Save the settings and reload the page.
- Open the WordPress term editor for that taxonomy.
- Save one representative term with a name and, if used, a description.
- Go to Translations → Translate contents and locate the term.
- Translate the available fields and save.
- Verify a public archive or component that displays the term.
Enabling the taxonomy does not scan old terms. Each term enters storage when it is created or saved after the taxonomy becomes active.
Expected fields
The parser always collects the term name. It adds the description only when the source description is non-empty. Inline markup inside a description is preserved through protected placeholders while its readable text remains translatable.
The term slug is also initialized for configured languages during a save, but it is not an ordinary content row. Edit and verify localized slugs under Translations → Translate URLs.
If the taxonomy is absent
The taxonomy may not expose an administration interface, may no longer be registered, or may be one of the permanent category/tag defaults omitted from the optional checklist. Confirm the owning theme or plugin is active before changing configuration.
For field behavior, see Understand taxonomy name and description. For the editing workflow, use the taxonomy chapter beginning with Translate taxonomy terms.
