Export stored translations

Use the export tool to download a portable JSON snapshot of translated text currently stored for the site. The process reads data in batches and shows progress, which avoids building the complete export in one server request.

Create an export

  1. Open Settings → POM Translate → Tools → Translation maintenance.
  2. Find Export translations.
  3. Select Export translations.
  4. Keep the page open while the progress indicator advances.
  5. Save the downloaded pom-translate-translations-YYYYMMDD-HHMMSS.json file securely.

The completion message reports the number of source strings inspected and translation entries exported.

Export structure

The current format uses version 1 and contains:

  • the export timestamp;
  • the configured source locale;
  • a translations map grouped by target locale;
  • the exact original and translated text for every exported entry;
  • the stored workflow status: pending, mt, human, or reviewed.

HTML and protected placeholder tokens remain in the values so that a later import can validate their structure.

What is not included

The file contains stored text translations only. It does not back up:

  • localized post, term, menu, or route slugs;
  • custom URL dictionaries and occurrences;
  • exclusions or parsed skeletons;
  • language and selector settings;
  • posts, terms, menus, orders, or media;
  • local quota counters or pending machine-translation work.

Use a database backup for complete recovery or migration.

Verify the file

Confirm that the download is non-empty, has a .json extension, and opens as valid JSON. Keep one untouched copy. Do not edit placeholder markers or convert the file through a spreadsheet application.

An export may legitimately contain fewer translation entries than source strings because source rows without a stored translation have nothing to include.
