Translate custom menu links
A WordPress Custom Link has two unrelated translatable concerns: its navigation label and its destination. Translate the label under Translate contents; map the URL under Translate URLs → Custom links only when the destination must differ by locale.
Map a detected destination
- Open Appearance → Menus.
- Add or edit the Custom Link, then select Save Menu.
- Open Translations → Translate URLs → Custom links.
- Choose the target locale.
- Find the source under Original URL. The Used in column can identify the menu occurrence.
- Enter URL for locale.
- Select Save custom URLs.
- Visit the target-language menu and follow the link.
POM Translate automatically registers menu URLs for this editor when they are external addresses or recognized files. Other supported custom values can be added manually.
Add a URL manually
Use Add custom URL when the link was not discovered:
- Enter the exact Original URL used by the site.
- Enter URL for locale.
- Select Add URL.
- Repeat for another locale by changing the locale selector.
Custom URL values are intentionally excluded from machine translation. They must be supplied and reviewed as destinations, not prose.
Understand matching and fragments
POM Translate normalizes the source before lookup. When a stored replacement exists, it returns that destination and restores the fragment from the original link. For example, a source ending in #contact keeps #contact after the base destination is replaced.
If no mapping exists, the source URL remains available. For same-site links rendered in a menu, the normal URL localizer may then rebuild a language-aware internal route. External URLs are not given a site language prefix.
Deleting a custom URL row removes it for every locale, not just the locale currently selected. Clear only the translated field when you want to remove one locale's replacement while retaining the source entry.
