Disable translation for a post type
Disable a post type when its objects should no longer enter the normal content-translation workflow. This may be appropriate for internal records, technical types, or a public feature that has been retired.
Pages are an exception: POM Translate always keeps the page post type enabled. You can still turn off any of its Title, Content, Excerpt, and Meta parts.
Understand what disabling does
Once the setting is saved:
- later saves of that post type stop invoking its normal translation parser;
- the usual object-level translation entry point is no longer offered for that type;
- no new source rows or localized slug defaults are initialized by those saves;
- previously stored translations are not automatically deleted just because the type was unchecked.
That last point matters. Disabling is a routing and collection decision, not a data-erasure command.
Disable the type
- Inventory its localized URLs, navigation links, SEO entries, and translated custom fields.
- Export or otherwise preserve any translation data you may need.
- Open Settings → POM Translate → Content types.
- Find the type under Post types available for translation.
- Clear Enable translations for this post type.
- Save and reload the settings page.
- Open a representative source object and confirm the normal translation action is absent.
- Visit known source and localized routes in a private window.
Do not resave every object expecting stored translations to be removed: the disabled-type guard deliberately stops parsing before cleanup.
Prefer field-level reduction when possible
If only one surface is obsolete, keep the post type active and disable the relevant part. Saving an eligible representative object then lets POM Translate reconcile that object's rows with the reduced policy. This is usually safer than removing the entire type from translation.
Restore the workflow
Re-enable the type, select the required parts, save the settings, and resave representative published or private objects. Existing stored rows may become available again, while changed source objects are reconciled during their next eligible save.
