Image reference updates are incomplete
A reference update can pause after the replacement image has been generated. The original and replacement are kept, and some references may already use the replacement.
Resume saved work
- Open Media → AI improve image or Media → AI remove image background using the account that started the update.
- Select Resume image reference updates.
- Wait for completion, then review the affected pages and settings.
- Refresh affected page or CDN caches if saved references are correct but the displayed page is stale.
Resuming a saved update does not generate another image or consume more AI credits. The site's WordPress cron runner can also continue it. If another request is already working, wait briefly and resume again.
The account must still have permission to manage site media references and edit both attachments. If access was removed, an administrator can restore the intended permissions. If an attachment was deleted or you no longer want to continue, Stop pending reference updates removes the pending work while preserving completed reference changes and any remaining images.
No saved update is available
The message The new image was created, but its media references could not be updated can mean the update could not be saved. Identify both entries in the Media Library and review them before starting another generation. Select the new image through the appropriate page, gallery or theme setting when needed.
Some places still show the original
References based on attachment IDs, unsupported plugin storage and external systems are not changed automatically. Select the new attachment in those editors. The original remains available for these uses; it is not automatically deleted when a reference update finishes.
