Update supported image references across a site

Choose Yes, update references and keep the original in an image tool to place a generated replacement into supported stored references. The original attachment remains in the Media Library.

Coverage

POM AI maps the original image URL and its available size variants to the new image variants. It updates supported references in:

• post and page content and excerpts;
• custom fields and term descriptions, including supported arrays of values;
• widget settings and theme modifications;
• the current site's POM Framework settings files.

If a matching new size does not exist, the new full-size image is used. Each update saves its progress so work can continue after a page reload. References modified by an editor during an update are checked before being saved.

References to review separately

The update does not change attachment IDs. Featured images, WooCommerce galleries, blocks or plugins that use an attachment ID may still display the original until you select the new attachment in their editor.

Other plugin options, custom plugin tables, serialized objects, oversized stored values, hardcoded theme files, JavaScript, external systems and other multisite sites are outside the supported coverage. Those references can keep using the retained original. POM Framework CSS settings are supported; unrelated theme source files are not rewritten.

Verify the result

1. Wait for the image tool to finish its reference update.
2. Open the pages where the image is most visible and inspect the actual rendered size.
3. Check builder layouts, logos, backgrounds, widgets and custom fields that used the old URL.
4. Select the new attachment manually for featured images or galleries that still use the old attachment ID.
5. Refresh affected page or CDN caches if their output remains stale. Other sites' object caches are not flushed by this operation.
6. Keep the original while checking any external uses.

Continue an interrupted update

Return to either image tool and choose Resume image reference updates. WordPress scheduled tasks can also continue saved work when the site's cron runner executes. Your account must still have access to both images and permission to manage site media references.

If you decide to stop, choose Stop pending reference updates. Completed reference changes remain in place and both images remain available. Use the content editor to switch references back, or restore a site backup for a complete rollback.
