Create a long-form post
The long-form post builder creates an article through saved stages. It can research current sources, plan and write the article, generate and place images, add SEO metadata, and leave the completed post as a draft or schedule it for publication.
Open it at Posts → Write posts with AI. You need permission to edit posts. Scheduling is shown only to users who can publish posts.
Writing style and your brief
When you choose Short and direct, the article uses clear wording and concise expression while preserving the requested depth and length. A long article still needs developed explanations and examples. The style does not require jokes or a sales pitch in every section. Your explicit preferences, audience and saved brand guidance shape the final voice; include instructions such as “no humor” or “informational article” when useful.
Before you start
- Complete the short description and the relevant business profile sections under Settings → POM AI → AI Setup. The tool selects the writing context it needs and keeps that snapshot for the complete run.
- Check the credit balance shown at the top of the screen. Planning, each article section, optional research, each image and SEO metadata can be separate charged operations.
- Decide the topic, audience, essential points and any restrictions before starting.
Configure the article
Prompt. Describe the article and include its topic, audience, required points, evidence expectations and exclusions. The field accepts up to 100,000 characters, so you may paste a complete reference article. Label reference material clearly, explain what should be imitated and state which facts must not be reused.
Total target word count. Choose 200 to 10,000 words. This is an approximate target for the complete article, not for each section.
Copywriting style. Choose Short and direct, Formal or For children.
Generation quality. Choose one of these customer-facing profiles:
- Standard for fast evergreen editorial work.
- Pro for more demanding structure, nuance and long reference material.
- Pro + internet when the article needs current research or must inspect supplied URLs. This adds a research stage before planning.
The underlying model name is intentionally not shown.
Article images. Enable automatic images and set a maximum from one to six. The planning stage decides where images are useful and supplies the image instructions; you do not write separate image prompts. The plan may use fewer images than the maximum.
For each image, POM AI chooses a suitable medium, such as realistic photography, an illustration, an infographic or a diagram, based on the section and your business context. Visual identity and art direction and Restrictions and non-negotiable rules under Settings → POM AI → AI Setup constrain that choice. Images share a coherent visual direction without being forced into one preset. If no art direction is saved, the tool uses the article and available business context to choose an approach.
Set the visual guidance before starting a new article: planning and section writing use the business-profile snapshot saved at the start of the run. Changing settings does not rewrite image briefs or images already generated.
Publication. Keep the completed post as a draft or choose a date at least five minutes ahead in the site's timezone. The selected date is saved when the draft is created. Publication is not scheduled until every required content, image and SEO stage has completed. Scheduled publication requires WP-Cron, or an equivalent server cron runner, to be working correctly. If generation finishes after the selected time, WordPress publishes the completed post immediately. If scheduled tasks are delayed, the completed article remains scheduled until WordPress processes the due event.
If Yoast SEO or Rank Math is active, the tool also generates and stores the SEO title, meta description and focus keywords automatically. With neither plugin active, that stage is skipped without consuming SEO credits.
Start the workflow
Estimate first step estimates only the next initial operation: research for Pro + internet, or planning for the other profiles. It does not claim to estimate the entire article because the number of sections and useful image positions is not known until the plan exists.
After confirmation, or immediately after selecting Generate article, the tool creates a draft and advances through one saved operation at a time:
- current-source research when Pro + internet is selected;
- structured article planning;
- one structured article section per request;
- one generated and imported image per request, when enabled;
- automatic SEO metadata when a supported SEO plugin is active;
- final draft or scheduled publication state.
The progress panel shows the overall percentage, current stage, every article section, image work, SEO and publication. Completed work is written to the draft after each operation.
When automatic images are enabled, Number of images sets how many image slots the plan must distribute across different sections, up to six. If the article has fewer sections than the requested image count, the one-image-per-section limit takes precedence.
If you have not chosen a featured image, the first generated image is assigned as the post's featured image and stays in its planned position inside the article. Both placements reuse the same Media Library attachment, so assigning the featured image does not consume extra credits. Later generated images do not replace it. You can change the featured image manually in the post editor after generation.
Pause, recover and retry
You may leave or reload the screen after the draft has been created. Return to Posts → Write posts with AI and select Resume generation. The tool finds your unfinished article for this site and continues from the next incomplete operation.
If an operation fails, completed stages remain saved and are not appended twice. The panel displays the failed step and changes the action to Retry failed step. Check the message, correct an external problem such as connectivity or available credits, and retry.
Only one unfinished long-form article is tracked per user and site. Finish or resume it before starting another one.
If the title, content or publication state changes in the post editor, generation stops to preserve that work. Keep editing the existing article manually, or select Generate article to start a separate draft. A stopped article is not overwritten or deleted. This also applies when an editor saves while an AI request is in progress.
Concurrent requests cannot advance the same article together. If another request is processing it, wait briefly before retrying. Content and progress are saved together; the database must support transactions for WordPress content. If the tool reports unsupported storage, ask the site administrator to review that requirement.
Image markup respects the active editor: sites using POM Theme or disabling native image blocks receive HTML figures instead of unavailable native blocks.
When it finishes
The screen confirms whether the completed article is a draft, scheduled or already published, and provides Open the post editor. Review the article even when it is scheduled:
- verify facts, dates, prices, quotations and source links;
- check heading order, transitions and repetition;
- review every generated image, its placement and alternative text;
- inspect the SEO title, description and focus keywords in Yoast SEO or Rank Math;
- add real examples, data and opinions that only your organization can supply.
See Review generated copy before publishing for a complete review process.
Cost shape
The total is the sum of completed operations: optional research, one plan, one request per article section, one request per generated image and optional SEO metadata. Larger prompts and business profiles also increase input usage on the stages that receive them.
Reducing the target length usually reduces the number and size of sections. Limiting images reduces image-generation charges. The progress record preserves the credits reported by every completed stage.
When to use something else
- For one passage inside an existing post, use the paragraph assistant.
- For a marketing page, use the paragraph assistant on individual sections or include the page in a site-wide copy run.
- For the main pages of a whole site, use the site-wide copy generator.
