Drag and drop does not save

Fenómenus has two drag interfaces and they save in different ways. Knowing which one you are using explains most of these reports.

Screen What you drag How it saves
All items Menu items within their category Immediately, with an Order saved successfully confirmation
All categories Categories, including sideways to nest them Only when you select Save changes

Categories: the order is staged, not instant

The category screen holds your changes until you save them. While there are unsaved changes it shows You have unsaved changes and enables the Save changes button.

If your category order keeps reverting:

  1. Drag the categories.
  2. Look for the unsaved-changes message.
  3. Select Save changes and wait for All changes saved.
  4. Only then reload or leave the screen.

The screen also asks you to save pending changes before adding or deleting a category. If a category you just created seems to have vanished, an unsaved reorder was probably discarded with it.

Categories: nesting has a limit

The tree supports one level of nesting — parents and their children. Dragging an item deeper does not create a third level, so a category that "will not stay" where you dropped it may be a depth that is not supported.

Items: the order saves immediately

On All items, releasing a dragged row saves the new order and shows a confirmation. If the order returns to its previous state:

  1. Confirm the confirmation message actually appeared. No confirmation means the save did not complete.
  2. Clear any active search or category filter and try again on the unfiltered list. Reordering is meaningful within the full category listing.
  3. Reload the screen and check whether the new order survived. If it did, you were looking at a stale view.

Items: the order is shared across languages

When the site is multilingual, reordering an item applies the same position to that item and all of its translations. This is deliberate: guests should read the same menu in the same order in every language.

The consequence is that you cannot give one language a different order. If a language looks wrong, it is not a failed save — it is the shared order being applied.

The order changed on its own

Two supported operations move items to the end of the list:

  • A bulk import appends new items after the current last position.
  • A bulk import that matches existing titles also moves those matched items to the end.

So a menu that was carefully ordered before an import will need re-ordering after it. Plan the import first, then the order.

Nothing drags at all

If the rows will not pick up:

  1. Reload the screen once; an interrupted page load can leave the list without its drag behavior.
  2. Confirm you are on the Fenómenus All items or All categories screen and not on a standard WordPress list.
  3. Try a desktop browser. Dragging long menus on a touch screen is unreliable by nature.
  4. Confirm your account is allowed to edit posts, and — for categories — to manage categories.

After any reorder

Check the public menu signed out. The admin order and the guest order should match exactly; if they do not, the save did not complete or a cache is serving the older page.
