Menu type settings
The Content types screen is where menu types are turned on. It is the shortest screen in the product and the one with the largest consequences.
Where
Settings → Restaurant settings → Content settings → Content types
What it shows
A table of the ten menu types with three columns:
- Post Type — the menu type's name;
- Status — an active or disabled marker;
- Actions — for inactive types, a template selector and an enable control.
Enable a menu type
- Find the type in the table.
- Choose its public layout from Select a template. The enable control stays disabled until you do — a menu type cannot be created without knowing how its archive will look.
- Select the enable control.
- Confirm the success message and let the screen reload.
Which layouts are offered
| Type | Layouts |
|---|---|
| À la carte, terrace, breakfast, desserts, bar menu, wine list, cocktails, beverages | Horizontal carousel · Masonry · Price list · Vertical · Swipe |
| Tasting menu, set menu | Menu design 1 · Menu design 2 |
The selector only ever shows the options that make sense for that type.
What enabling creates
- The content type and its category taxonomy.
- The templates for the chosen layout.
- The type's sidebar entry, with All items, All categories and its tools.
- Its public archive.
- Its section in Content settings → Content settings.
- Its own PDF menu generator.
Enabling the wine list additionally seeds its category tree, its vintage list and its ageing classifications.
There is no disable control
The screen enables types; it does not remove them. Removing a content type would orphan every item, category, translation and QR code depending on it.
To retire a menu that is no longer sold:
- Draft its items.
- Remove it from the other archives' contact dock links.
- Replace any printed QR code that pointed at it.
- Leave the type in place, unpublished.
Everything then stays recoverable for next season.
After enabling
- [ ] The sidebar entry appeared.
- [ ] Categories created.
- [ ] First items published.
- [ ] Appearance set in Content settings → Content settings.
- [ ] The type added to the contact dock links of the archives it should be reachable from.
- [ ] Allergen support enabled for it, if it needs it.
- [ ] The archive checked signed out, on a phone.
The dock step is the one that is forgotten: a newly enabled menu exists, its address works, and no guest can reach it until it is ticked in the other archives' dock configuration.
