Reorder items
The order of items inside a section is a menu-design decision, and Fenómenus treats it as content: what you arrange on All items is exactly what a guest reads.
Reorder by dragging
- Open All items under the menu type.
- Locate the section — the items are grouped under their category headings.
- Drag a row to its new position.
- Release it and wait for Order saved successfully.
The order saves as soon as you drop the row. There is no separate save button, unlike the category screen.
Order the way a guest reads
A menu is read from the top down, and attention drops fast. Useful conventions:
- open a section with the dish you most want ordered;
- keep obvious pairs adjacent — the two rice dishes, the two steaks;
- group by preparation or main ingredient inside a long section;
- close a section with the largest or most expensive item, not with a footnote;
- do not order by price unless the menu is genuinely a price list.
If a section needs internal grouping to read well, that is usually a sign it should be two categories rather than one carefully arranged list.
Reordering with filters active
Clear the search box and the filters before a serious reordering pass. Dragging inside a filtered view moves the row relative to what is displayed, which is not always the arrangement you are trying to build. Reorder on the full list of the section.
What the order affects
The same saved order is used by:
- the public archive, in every layout;
- the category navigation's sense of sequence;
- the generated PDF, which prints categories and items in their saved order.
Change the order once and every output follows — except any PDF already generated, which must be rebuilt.
Multilingual sites
Reordering an item applies the same position to that item and all of its translations. Guests read the same menu in the same sequence in every language, and there is no way to give one language a different order.
Two things that move items to the end
Both come from bulk work, and both are expected:
- a bulk import appends newly created items after the current last position;
- an import that matches existing titles moves those matched items to the end as well.
So the sequence is always: import first, order afterwards. Ordering a menu and then importing into it wastes the ordering pass.
When the order does not stick
- Confirm Order saved successfully actually appeared.
- Reload the screen and check whether the new order survived — if it did, you were looking at a stale view.
- Clear filters and try again on the unfiltered section.
- Confirm the public menu signed out; if the admin order is right and the public order is old, a page cache is serving an earlier copy.
Ordering the sections themselves
Item order is only half the arrangement. The order of the sections is set on All categories, and that screen stages changes until you select Save changes. See Reorder categories.
