Delete an item

Read this page before deleting anything. Deletion in Fenómenus is permanent.

What deletion does

Selecting the delete action on a row in All items asks for confirmation and then removes the item permanently. It does not go to the WordPress trash, there is nothing to restore, and menu items keep no revision history.

Deleting requires the permission to delete posts, so an account that can edit items may not be able to remove them — which is usually the right arrangement for floor staff.

Use Draft instead, almost always

For anything temporary — a sold-out dish, a seasonal item, a preparation withdrawn while the kitchen decides — set the item to Draft. It disappears from the public menu immediately and keeps its title, descriptions, prices, photos, allergens, category, position and translations.

Deletion is only the right action when the item is genuinely never coming back and you want it gone from the working list.

Before deleting, check three things

  1. Is it referenced anywhere? A dish named in a tasting menu block, in a set menu's dish selection, or in another dish's recommended-pairing field will leave that reference dangling.
  2. Is it in a generated PDF? Regenerate the file afterwards.
  3. Does a QR code point at it? Codes point at menus and categories rather than at individual dishes, but a custom-URL code could point at a single item.

Delete one item

  1. Open All items under the menu type.
  2. Find the row.
  3. Select the delete action.
  4. Confirm at the prompt — Are you sure you want to delete this post?
  5. The row disappears and the screen confirms the item was deleted permanently.

Deleting on a multilingual site

Deletion applies to the item you delete. Its translations are separate records and are not removed with it, so a deleted source can leave translated items behind without a counterpart.

After deleting on a multilingual site, check the other languages and remove the leftovers deliberately.

Cleaning up drafts

Drafts accumulate — abandoned copies named … (Copy), items prepared for a menu that never launched. Periodically:

  1. Filter All items by status Draft.
  2. Read the list.
  3. Finish what is still wanted.
  4. Delete what is not.

This is the one routine where deletion is the right tool, because you are looking at each item as you decide.

Recovering from a deletion

There is no recovery inside the product. The realistic options are:

  • Recreate it from an Excel export taken earlier — which is exactly why taking one before a bulk operation is recommended;
  • Recreate it from a generated PDF, which preserves titles, descriptions and prices as of its generation date;
  • Recreate it by hand.

Keeping the export from before each bulk change turns an accidental deletion from a loss into ten minutes of retyping. See A safe bulk update workflow.

Deleting categories is different

Deleting a category does not delete the items inside it. They lose that assignment and appear in Uncategorized Items. See Delete categories safely.
