Rename a menu type for guests

The ten menu types have built-in names — À la carte menu, Terrace menu, Breakfast, Wine list — but few restaurants call their menus that. Fenómenus lets you change the name guests read without changing the structure underneath.

What can be renamed, and what cannot

Renameable Fixed
The plural label guests read for a menu type The internal identity of the menu type
Category names The address pattern the archive already publishes
The featured label
Contact dock labels and toggle labels

Renaming changes wording, not identity. It does not move content, break assignments or affect translations that already exist.

Rename a menu type

  1. Open Settings → Restaurant settings → Content settings → Content settings.
  2. Scroll to the section for the menu type.
  3. Edit Plural label for ….
  4. Select Save Settings.
  5. Check the public menu signed out.

Examples that read better than the defaults:

Default Often better as
À la carte menu dishes Our menu · La carta · Kitchen
Bar menu Counter · Pintxos · Bar
Beverages Drinks · Bar list
Set menu Menu of the day
Tasting menu Tasting experience · Chef's menu

Keep the label short. It appears in navigation, in the contact dock and above the archive, where a long name wraps awkwardly on a phone.

Featured items are marked with a fixed featured term whose public name you control:

  1. In the same Content settings screen, find Featured term name.
  2. Enter the wording you want — House specialty, Chef's choice, Our favourite.
  3. Save.

Changing the name does not change which items are featured, and does not change the underlying featured marker. It only changes the words guests see.

Rename the contact dock

Each archive's floating dock has its own wording:

  • Contact dock toggle label for … archive replaces the label on the floating button. Left empty, the button shows the current menu's label instead.
  • Each link in the dock uses the plural label of the menu type it points at, so renaming a type updates the dock automatically.

Rename categories

Category names are edited on All categories for that menu type. Renaming a category:

  • changes what guests read immediately;
  • does not move any item;
  • can change the address of that category's archive.

That last point matters if a printed QR code points at a category. Rename freely before printing; afterwards, treat a category rename as a decision about printed material too. See A QR code opens the wrong page.

Renaming on a multilingual site

Labels and category names are translated per language like any other text. Renaming the source label does not translate it — set the wording in each language so the navigation is consistent everywhere.

A naming convention worth keeping

Use the same voice across every label. A site that mixes La carta, Drinks and Tasting menu experience reads as three different restaurants. Decide whether the menus are named in the house's language or in the guest's, and apply that to all nine.
