QR troubleshooting

Codes fail in a small number of ways, and the first step is always the same: scan it and read the address bar.

The generator produces nothing

Symptom Cause
Nothing happens on Generate Codes No destination was selected — the screen says to select at least one item
The custom URL is rejected The address is not valid, or is missing https://
No URLs found for the selected content The selected destinations produced no usable address

A destination is missing from the list

A menu type is not listed. Menu archives appear only when that menu type publishes an archive. Its categories are still listed further down, and on many sites a category archive is the public menu.

A category is not listed. Confirm the menu type is enabled and the category exists and was saved — the category screen stages changes until you select Save changes.

The QR generator itself is missing. Enable it under Settings → Restaurant settings → Enabled tools → QR codes generator.

The code opens the wrong page

Scan it and compare the address with what you intended.

What opens Cause
The home page instead of a menu Home Page is ticked by default and was left ticked
Another menu A different destination was ticked
The right page in the wrong language The file came from the wrong language group
A "not found" page The destination no longer exists at that address
A login screen The destination is not public

For a printed code, this is not fixable in software. Either restore the destination at its old address or reprint. See A QR code opens the wrong page.

It worked before and now it does not

Something changed the address. The usual causes:

  • a category was renamed or deleted;
  • a menu type was retired;
  • the site moved to another domain;
  • the front page was restructured.

Content changes — prices, dishes, photos — never break a code.

It scans on screen but not on paper

The content is right and the print is wrong:

  • print from the SVG, not from an enlarged PNG;
  • restore the clear margin around the code;
  • increase the contrast;
  • check the code was not stretched out of square;
  • print larger;
  • test a matt version if the glossy one fails under spotlights.

It works for you but not for guests

  • Test on mobile data, not only the restaurant's Wi‑Fi.
  • Test signed out, in a private window.
  • Test from a seated position, in the room's real lighting.
  • Test on an older phone; camera quality varies more than people expect.

The page opens but is slow or wrong

The code is fine; the destination needs work:

  • check the menu loads quickly on a phone connection;
  • check it is complete and published;
  • check the contact dock lets a guest reach the other menus;
  • check it reads correctly in the language the code points at.

Nothing scans at all, anywhere

  • Confirm the printed piece is the file you think it is.
  • Confirm the code was not resized non-proportionally in the layout software.
  • Try scanning the original SVG on screen; if that fails too, regenerate it.

Prevent the next one

  • Verify the destination before generating.
  • SVG for print, PNG for screens.
  • Scan the file before printing, and a proof before the run.
  • Point printed codes at stable destinations.
  • Keep the generated files named by destination, language and date.
