Allergen settings
One screen decides which menus carry allergen information and what that information consists of.
Where
Settings → Restaurant settings → Content settings → Allergens, headed Manage Allergens.
Two parts
1. Which types of content have allergen information?
A checkbox per public content type. A menu type that is ticked gets:
- an allergen panel on its items;
- allergen icons beside its dishes on the public menu;
- the allergen filter on its archive.
A menu type that is not ticked has none of these.
Food menu types are enabled during setup. The drinks menus are not, and often should be — beers contain gluten, cream liqueurs contain dairy, several aperitifs and wines contain sulphites.
2. The allergen list
One row per allergen, each with:
| Field | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Title | The name guests read |
| Description | The explanation shown in the allergen information panel |
| Icon | The symbol beside dishes |
Actions: Add Allergen, the per-row remove control, Restore Defaults, and Save Allergens.
The seeded library
A new site starts with seventeen allergens covering the common declarable ones plus intolerances restaurants are regularly asked about, each with a description and an icon.
Treat it as a starting point: rename to your wording, remove what you will never use, add what your kitchen is asked about.
Keep the list short enough to read on a phone. Every extra allergen is one more thing to keep accurate on every dish.
Renaming is global and safe
Renaming an allergen changes it everywhere at once, including on items already tagged with it. Nothing is unassigned and nothing needs re-tagging.
It is the right tool when the wording is wrong. Removal is not.
Restore Defaults
Replaces the list with the built-in seventeen and removes the existing allergens. It asks for confirmation and the confirmation says exactly that.
It is a reset, not a way to add missing defaults. Add those individually.
Descriptions are guest-facing
They appear in the allergen information panel guests open from the menu. Write them for a guest, keep them all the same length and register, and avoid kitchen shorthand.
What this screen does not do
- It does not assign allergens to dishes. That is per item, from the recipe. See Assign allergens to items.
- It does not control whether the filter's opener appears — that is the Filters toggler in the navigation settings.
- It does not verify anything. Accuracy and compliance remain the restaurant's responsibility.
