Import a wine list from an image

Photograph an existing wine list — a printed card, a typed sheet, a handwritten cellar list — and the tool turns it into editable rows you review before anything is saved.

Before you start

  • Enable it: Settings → Restaurant settings → Enabled tools → AI wine list generator.
  • POM AI must be active and connected.
  • Have the image ready: .jpg, .jpeg, .png, .gif or .webp.

Where it lives

Wine list → Bulk add wines from Excel or photo.

The screen is a table with the wine columns — name, glass price, bottle price, Magnum price, Benjamin price — plus a category selector and a save action. The photo tool fills that table; it does not save anything by itself.

Photograph the list well

The quality of the photo decides how much correcting you do afterwards.

  • Shoot the page flat, square to the camera, filling the frame.
  • Use even light. Avoid a flash reflection across the page.
  • One page per photo. A spread photographed at an angle loses the outer column.
  • Prefer a printed original over a photocopy, and a photocopy over a photograph of a screen.
  • Handwriting works, but expect more corrections.

Run it

  1. Select Upload image.
  2. Choose the file and select Upload and Calculate Credits.
  3. Confirm the cost when it is shown.
  4. Wait for the analysis.
  5. The detected wines appear as rows in the table.

Review the table

Before saving, check the rows against the original page:

  • Names — the most common errors are producer names and accented characters.
  • Prices — confirm each price landed in the right column. A glass price read as a bottle price is easy to miss and expensive.
  • Missing rows — compare the count against the page.
  • Split rows — a wine whose name wrapped across two lines can arrive as two entries.
  • Vintages in names — remove them; the title column is Wine name (no vintage).

Edit directly in the table. Rows can be deleted with the control at the end of the row.

Assign a category

Choose the category in Assign category before saving. It applies to the whole batch, so work one section of the original list at a time: photograph the reds, import them into Reds, then the whites.

Wine list items are not auto-filed, so a batch saved with no category goes straight to Uncategorized Items and stays invisible to guests.

Save

Select Save new wines. Rows are matched by exact title:

  • a new title creates a wine, published, at the end of the list;
  • an existing title updates that wine;
  • empty cells are skipped, so a blank price never erases an existing one.

Matched wines are also moved to the end of the menu order, so re-check the order afterwards.

Then complete the records

The photo gives you names, prices and a category. It does not give you regions, grapes, vintages or tasting notes. Complete them with Bulk fill wine information, or by hand for a short list.

Pasting instead of photographing

The same table accepts pasted spreadsheet rows. If the list already exists digitally, paste it — it is free, exact, and immediate. Photograph only what exists on paper.

Cost

The analysis consumes POM AI credit, and the amount is shown before the image is processed.
