An event does not appear
Work down this list. The first four checks resolve most cases.
1. Is the POM theme active?
The whole event runtime loads only on it. On another theme:
- the Events menu is gone;
- event URLs do not render as event pages;
- the shortcodes produce nothing.
Nothing is deleted. Activate the POM theme and everything returns. If the Events menu is missing from the sidebar, stop here — this is the cause.
2. Is the event published?
Drafts, pending, private and scheduled events are not shown to visitors. Check the status in All Events.
3. Has its end date passed?
Event lists show events whose end date is today or later. A finished event leaves the upcoming list automatically — that is intended behavior.
Check the Event start date column, and open the event to check the end date. Two frequent causes:
- the end date was left empty;
- the end date is earlier than intended, for example the start date was copied into it by mistake.
4. Are you looking at the right surface?
They behave differently:
| Surface | Shows past events? |
|---|---|
| The search form | No |
| The calendar | Yes |
| The events archive | Yes |
| Category and type archives | Yes |
| The event's own URL | Always |
An event missing from the search form but present in the calendar is almost always a date question, not a fault.
5. Is the shortcode on the page?
Nothing lists events automatically. Confirm the page you are looking at actually contains [web_event_search_form] or [pom_events_fullcalendar].
A blank events page is usually a page that was never given a shortcode.
6. Are filters applied?
The search form remembers a visitor's filter selection within their session. Reload the page and confirm nothing is selected.
If a filter is applied and the event is not classified under those terms, it is correctly excluded.
7. Is the event classified?
An event with no event type and no category is invisible to every filter. Assign terms as part of publishing.
8. Does the event have dates at all?
An event with empty dates cannot be ordered, filtered or placed in the calendar reliably. Open it and confirm both fields are set.
9. Permalinks
If the event's own URL returns a not-found error rather than an empty page, open Settings → Permalinks and save once. This is common after activating the plugin or changing the permalink structure.
10. Caching
If the event is correct in the admin and absent in public after a reload, a page cache or CDN is serving an older copy. Purge it and check again.
Quick decision
| Symptom | Most likely cause |
|---|---|
| No Events menu at all | Not the POM theme |
| Missing from the search form only | End date has passed, or no dates |
| Missing everywhere, page loads | Not published |
| Not-found error at its URL | Permalinks need saving |
| Missing when filtered, present otherwise | No taxonomy terms assigned |
| The whole events page is empty | No shortcode on the page |
