The calendar does not load
The month calendar is empty, incomplete, or does not render at all.
1. Is the shortcode on the page?
The calendar only exists where you place [pom_events_fullcalendar], or its page-builder element. Confirm the page actually contains it.
An empty area where you expected a calendar is usually a page that was never given the shortcode.
2. Is the POM theme active?
Without it, the shortcode is not registered and produces nothing. If the Events menu is missing from the sidebar, this is the cause.
3. Are the events published?
The calendar contains published events only. Drafts, private and scheduled events do not appear.
4. Do the events have valid dates?
Entries are placed from the stored start and end datetimes. An event with an empty or malformed date cannot be placed and will not appear where you expect.
Open the event and confirm both fields are set.
5. Are you looking at the right month?
The calendar opens on the current month. Events in other months are there, one navigation step away.
Unlike the search form, the calendar includes past events, so previous months are populated too.
6. The calendar renders but an event is missing
Check, for that event:
- it is published;
- both dates are set;
- the dates are the ones you expect;
- you are looking at the month its start date falls in.
7. Entries appear but do not link correctly
Each entry links to its event's permalink. If links resolve to not-found errors, open Settings → Permalinks and save once.
8. The calendar is unreadable on a phone
A month grid is the hardest element in the plugin to render on a small screen. Two practical responses:
- put the calendar on its own page rather than alongside other content;
- keep event titles short, since a cell shows very little text.
If it still does not work for your audience, the search form is the better primary listing and the calendar can be secondary.
9. The empty-month message
When a visitor navigates to a month with no events, they read a message saying so. That is the search form's error_msg attribute, not a fault.
Set it to something useful: Nothing scheduled this month — try another.
10. Caching
If the calendar is correct in the admin and stale in public, purge the page cache or CDN and check again in a private window.
Styling by category
Each entry carries its event's category slugs as classes, which is the supported way to color-code a calendar.
If your color coding stopped working, check that the category slugs your stylesheet targets still exist — renaming a category can change its slug.
Quick decision
| Symptom | Cause |
|---|---|
| Nothing at all where the calendar should be | No shortcode, or not the POM theme |
| Calendar renders, no events | Events unpublished, or dates missing |
| One event missing | Its dates, or the month you are viewing |
| Entries do not open | Permalinks need saving |
| Colors gone | Category slugs changed |
