The country field
Country is the one optional field that is not enabled by default.
Where
Events settings → Registration form → Form fields → Country.
What it is
A free-text field. The visitor types a country name; there is no dropdown and no validation, so the values you collect are whatever people write.
When it earns its place
- International conferences and congresses, where the audience mix is part of the reporting.
- Events with travel or visa implications.
- Online events across time zones, where you want to know where attendees are.
- Grant or programme reporting that requires a breakdown by country.
When to leave it off
For a local event it is pure friction. If ninety per cent of attendees live in the same city, asking every one of them to type the country name buys nothing.
That is why it ships disabled: most events do not need it.
Free text has consequences
Because there is no controlled list, the same country arrives spelled several ways: España, Spain, ESP, es. For counting, you will normalize the values in a spreadsheet after exporting.
Two ways to reduce the mess:
- Ask for it in one language in your clause text or introduction — Please write your country in English;
- Model it as an Event category instead, if you are really grouping attendees into a small known set.
Where the value goes
The country is stored with the registration and included in the CSV and XLS exports. It is not shown publicly, and it is not displayed as its own column in the attendee panel — the panel shows name, email, telephone and comments.
So if you enable it, plan to read it from the export rather than from the screen.
Data protection
Country is personal data in combination with the rest of the registration. The same rules apply as for the other fields: collect it only if you will use it, cover it in the privacy policy, and handle exports carefully.
Verify
- Enable the field and save.
- Open the form signed out and confirm it appears.
- Register with a country value.
- Export the attendee list and confirm the country column is populated.
- Confirm the value is usable for what you actually intend to report.
