Dates or times are wrong
Dates read incorrectly, times are off, or an event sorts in the wrong place.
1. Check the site timezone
Settings → General → Timezone.
Event dates and times are entered and displayed in the site's timezone. If it is wrong, every event on the site reads wrong by the same amount — which is the giveaway.
There is no per-event timezone. For an event in another city, state the local time in the introduction rather than shifting the stored value.
2. Check the date format for that event
Events settings → Date & Time → Date format decides how that event's dates are printed:
| Symptom | Cause |
|---|---|
| No time shown, although one was entered | A date-only format is selected |
| Only a month, or only a year | A reduced format is selected |
| A different style from other events | The format is per event |
The time can be stored without being printed. Those are two independent decisions.
3. Check the dates themselves
Open the event and read both fields:
- is the end date set at all?
- is it earlier than the start?
- was the start copied into the end by mistake?
An event with no end date never leaves upcoming lists and its button state is unreliable. An end date before the start makes ordering and filtering nonsensical.
4. Dates are hidden, not wrong
Two switches remove dates rather than changing them:
| Switch | Effect |
|---|---|
| Hide event date, on the event | No dates on the event page or in lists |
| Hide events date, in the Archive settings | No dates in list items site-wide |
If dates have "disappeared", check both before looking for a data problem.
5. The order is wrong
Lists and previous/next navigation are ordered by start date, ascending — not by publication date.
An event published today for next March appears after an event happening next week. That is correct.
If an event sorts oddly, its start date is the thing to check.
6. The calendar entry is on the wrong day
Calendar entries are placed from the stored datetimes, regardless of the date format chosen for display. An entry in the wrong place means the stored value is wrong.
7. Add to calendar produces the wrong time
The calendar link is built from the stored datetimes, not from what the page prints. So:
- an event whose format hides the time still passes the real time;
- an event with hidden dates still produces a dated entry.
If the entry is wrong, correct the stored datetime.
8. An event disappeared from lists
Its end date has passed. Lists show events ending today or later, and a finished event leaves automatically.
Check the end date before concluding anything else. See Past and upcoming events.
9. All-day events showing a time
All day marks the event; it does not remove the time from the display. For a true all-day event, enable All day and choose a date-only format.
Quick decision
| Symptom | Cause |
|---|---|
| Every event is off by the same amount | The site timezone |
| One event prints no time | Its date format |
| One event prints no dates at all | Hide event date |
| No list shows dates | Hide events date in the Archive settings |
| An event vanished from lists | Its end date has passed |
| An event sorts oddly | Its start date |
| The calendar entry is misplaced | The stored datetime |
