Event location

Event place is where the event happens. It is printed in the details sidebar of the event page and in the event list item.

Where

Events settings → Event info → Event place.

It is a textarea, so it accepts more than one line — a venue name on the first, an address on the second.

What to write

Enough for someone to get there:

Palacio de Congresos
Av. de la Constitución 12
Donostia / San Sebastián

Or, when the venue is well known locally, just its name.

Two rules:

  • Write it the way a visitor would search for it. A venue's official long name is often not the name people use.
  • Keep the format identical across events. The place appears in lists next to other events; three different address styles look careless.

Online events

There is no separate online-event mode. For a remote event, use the place field to say so:

Online — Zoom
Link sent to registered attendees

Do not put the meeting URL in the place field; it is printed publicly on the page and in lists. Send the link to attendees, or use an additional link if the room is genuinely public.

Maps

The plugin does not render a map. Two supported ways to give directions:

  • add an additional link button pointing at the venue's map location;
  • embed a map in the event content, using the site's page-builder elements.

The first is better for a phone: it opens the map application directly.

When the place is not fixed

If the venue is not confirmed, either leave the field empty — nothing is rendered — or write what is known:

Venue to be confirmed — city centre

An empty place field is better than a wrong one, because visitors will plan around what you publish.

Multi-venue events

For an event running in several places, put the primary venue in the place field and the full list in the content. The sidebar is a summary, not a schedule.

The place is not a filter. Visitors filter by event type and category, and by date. If location is how your audience chooses, model it as an Event type or a Category — Bilbao, Online, Madrid — so it becomes filterable, and keep the place field for the address.

That is the single most useful decision in this article for a multi-city calendar.

Verify

  1. Save and open the event signed out.
  2. Confirm the place appears in the details sidebar.
  3. Confirm it appears in the event list item.
  4. Confirm the line breaks read correctly.
  5. On a phone, confirm a long address does not break the sidebar layout.
